Following on from this thread: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=othrmod&action=display&thread=63484I'm building a peugeot shopper bike (that ive allready added chopper bars to haha) into a electric assist bike with the possibility of evolving into a full electric moped sorta thing. any decent turn of speed is going to give a need for smaller handlebars tho as these get a bit of a wiggle on lol start with: add sproket and motor as it looks with the hall effect twist grip for throttle control which wont be used untill a suitable speedcontrol has been found which can take the 36volt ideal input... (currently 24v) all i need to test it is a chain thats long enough now.... ill get some pics of how i did the sprocket too more updates very soon hopefully.... should be a progressive thing lol

Do you have any plans for how you're actually going to mount the second chain yet? I'm liking the mount, always good to have these sort of mods reversible.

the original casette on the peugeot rear wheel had a drilled 1st gear (big one at back ) the sprocket from the scooter had a hole big enough to fit over the original hub diamiter. all i had to do then was drille the scooter sprocket and bolt it to the cassette then space the cassette away from the spokes by 2mm with a chopped up end of a cokecan stuntpeg... *re grease and refit the bearings and refit the wheel and all still works although ive lost 1st and 2nd gears due to the bolts holding the larger sproket on touching and causing the chain to skip... although that shouldnt be a problem as running the bike in 3rd constantly before was fine.. *I'm going to (but not till after a test ride) fit a freewheel at the motor end so that when pedaling with the motor off i wont have the drag of the motor on it.... although ill have to fit somekind of tension seaker as the chain will then have to be able to freewheel and load up in different directions.... *making a longer chain should be ok, i just need one more i think and nock the rivets out and pin them back in the vice...

oh and ive also got a rear rack for the peugeot that came from another peugeot down the shed... making this totally reversable lol

so when the motor turns the pedals turn? That might be interesting at speed.

Agree with Tallsam, sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Might I suggest flipping the motor over and somehow attaching a sprocket to the other side of the wheel, still keeping the freewheel on the motor.

thats the future plan yes... the overall plan is to get rid of the pedals alltogether lol
first off tho... I'm going to use the bolt up rear freewheel that the sprocket was bolted to on the scooter. turn it round and mount the pedals arms centre spigot on that meaning the chain will be spinning but the pedals wont. then i pedal and it takes up the drive... meaning its less cluttered in theory and looks more stock. also meaning i don't need to rid the bike of pedals....
but the possibility of a 1000w motor under the downtube and using the original chain (and therefore gears) has crossed my mind lol

i had one done like this... but my pedals I think were off a tandem and the two chain rings on the pedals actually were ona ratchet themselves and when the motor ran they just freewheeled round the pedals which stood still
