Tim's (my mate) was quite straight and had the loudest exhaust I think I've ever heard on a road car  We were on our way to an awards dinner, all in suits and that (ANWCC Championship), going round a roundabout and onto a 40mph dual carriageway. We come off the roundabout and behind a Metro doing about 30mph, so Tim checks his mirrors, pulls out and gives it a bit of throttle to get past. We didn't go over 40, or if we did, it wasn't by much. "Good job I didn't floor it", he says, "there's a copper in the distance behind, he'd WELL be after us in this"... We pull into a petrol station to fill up, when said policeman comes in behind us. "Afternoon lads, any ideas why I want to talk to you?" "err, no" "So you didn't see me in your mirrors when you overtook that Metro?" "Yes, I did officer" "You'd have been doing 70 down there, easily, if you hadn't spotted me" "Err, no officer, it's a 40mph road. I'd have been doing 40." "In a car like that? Come off it!" "Yes, officer - it's a 40mph limit. I was doing 40, and would have been whether I'd seen you or not." "No chance. You'd have been doing 70." This went on, over and over for a good couple of minutes. People could overhear at the other pumps and were looking at us, like "what is he on about?!"... I think he'd pulled us expecting two boy racer lads to get out, not two suited up blokes Still couldn't figure out what exactly he was trying to say... He couldn't charge or reprimand us for anything, so what was he on about?! |

That picture makes me want to cry.
It's odd, a few years ago you couldn't give a MK2 away, now they go for silly money.
Me and a couple of mates nearly bought a 2 door 1100 for £50 a few years back, kicking myself now, could have done it up really nice

Was it a Harrier that Terry and Arthur shook hands on in the opening credits to "Minder"? I seem to remember it having X-Pack arches and the Harrier stripes...

Not alot. its basicly a mk2 sport but a bit more limited edition. Got lots of bits of pointless tat (stripes etc.! )on it, the kind of thing ford geeks cream thier pants over. in reality theres no major mechanical differances (1600 engine could count i suppose)

 I couldn't insure an Escort ten years ago (when I was 17); Now I can afford the insurance, I wouldn't be able to afford a decent mk2 Escort! I remember passing by several decent mk1s for £50-odd, which were all better than the one I recently paid over £300 for. Hence my mission to save Sierras now while they're cheap!

Was it a Harrier that Terry and Arthur shook hands on in the opening credits to "Minder"? I seem to remember it having X-Pack arches and the Harrier stripes... I think that was a Mk 2 capri! It was white with blue stripes though. |

It was white with blue stripes though. If I remember correctly the car they drive onto the forecourt in is a white Mk2 Capri. However ... in the background is a Mk2 Escort with X-Pack arches & stripes. ;D Pics for evidence ...   ;D |

That'll be me too then! hence the fleet Considered an harrier for £1795, daily drivable job,this was 6 years ago. I thought it was a bit much and my dad said, "what do you want one of them for?" "if they were that good you'd see em on the road every day" Its best not to listen to parents but he was a mechanic, and had a bad experiece with a brand new mk2 back in the 70's. Damn nevermind i bagged the mk1 xr2 for 500 that rotted to death, i was only a student so it was wiser at the time  Classic ford mags obsession with escorts must have something to do with the now major popularity. |

i know of a concourse harrier for sale round the corner, with xpack bucket seats, he wants 3k for it.
differences include:
spotlights
british gas stripes,
711m block crossflow (same as mine)
spare wheel strap in rs position
anti tramp bars (i think)
