I don't think I ever started a thread on this car so, to celebrate the fact that it passed it's MOT and is now wearing fresh rent in the window I thought i'd post a few pics and give you a little run down on it.
I've had this car now for 9 years and has been a continuous work in progress. ( Aren't they all ? )
When we first got the car it had already been converted, albeit badly, with a Triumph Dolomite Sprint engine and LT77 gearbox, and my ex-SWMBO used it as a daily for 12 months.
I set about rebuilding a new engine for it with match ported head and manifolds.
This was fitted over the xmas break ( outside in snow and everything! ) the following winter.
Wheels were sourced and fitted (Dymag 7j x 15") wearing Contisport 195/45r15 tyres.
These wheels are Vauxhall Nova fitment, so I made 4 hub adapters out of aluminium.
Anyways, pictures ;
Over the years i've added / removed / improved most parts of the car but current spec is ;
1978 Spitfire 1500 chassis and body.
Fibreglass GT6 bonnet
Chopped front bumpers and custom grill
All suspension bushes relaced with selfmade Nylon/stainless bushes (not poly!)
Adjustable 'GAZ' shocks on all 4 corners.
Uprated front springs
New rear spring
Remote brake servo
all brake lines replaced in copper with Goodridge braided flex's
GT6 front hubs with grooved/drilled discs
Princess 4pot calipers with selfmade stainless pistons
New rear standard brakes
Rebuilt Dolomite Sprint engine with match ported manifolds/head, BBT needles and 'green' springs in HS6 carbs.
Oil to water oil cooler
S.U. Electric fuel pump
S.U. foam air filters
Phoenix sports stainless exhaust system
Custom pipework in Aluminium and copper to Golf Caddy diesel radiator and homemade header tanks.
Electronic ignition
LT77 TR7 5speed gearbox with custom propshaft.
Standard axle.
Custom interior/dashpanel/switchgear (selfmade)
Baby cub seats.
Dymag 15" alloys
Kenwood audio (Pointless tbh cos I can't hear a damn thing so probably will be removed !)
I've probably forgotten loads but you get the idea i'm sure !
It goes, stops and corners like no other Spitfire I've seen. (not just my opinion either !)
Future plans are either sell it or fit the massively ported head I've been working on for a while along with a silly lumpy cam and a pair of HS8's I have kicking about. Can't decide what to do ! lol.
Anyways, it is now back on the road for this glorios summer and will definately be at Retro show on the 12th ! Yay.
