So, the Merc is currently sitting on standard 15 inch rims with 195/65/15s. They look a bit on the large side and are pretty close to the arches..... Seeing as how I don't think I'm going to be able to get the alloys refurbed in time for the Retro Show (I'm doing them myself, but don't have a lot of time left) what would be a good size tyre for the standard rim to make it look a bit less 'balloony'?

175/50/15, you can get them from Camskill.com for very little, plus it'll be a massive loss in sidewall compared to the ones you have.

Good old 195/50/15
Same width as what you've got but a lower profile to more clearance (AKA room for when the stick strikes)
The other Brucie Bonus is that 195/50/15 is probably the cheapest and easiest to source tyre in the whole galaxy. Happy days......

Just to add: 195/50/15 will give you over an inch of clearance either side & above (2" smaller diameter, 1" lower profile)

Cheers chaps Now just need to find some part worns. No point paying full whack when they're not going to be staying on for long! Oh, and it's lowered already 60mm Looks like this with low profiles and 16's on

Happy days...... Cheapness indeed. I just got a set of 4 195/50/15s for £190 fitted at National. They're Barums, made by continental and are described as 'mid range'. I've not used them yet, but I've always found Barums to be one of the reasonable budget brands in the past

Nice motor!
I'm running 195/50/15s on mine but you might get 205/50s on.
Failing that 195/60s make for a slightly better ride, i.e less harsh especially if it's been lowered.
