someone who 'restores' that would be amost as dumb as someone who chucked it in a skip! Yeah, well, while I do love rust, sharp bits, flat, split tyres, non functioning brakes and britle seats, I can't help but think those things might hinder my daughters enjoyment. Still, cheers for the heads up.

this is the very bike that inspired raleigh to build the chopper!
indeed very rare in the uk, was never sold here originally, so all got here via private imports!
I'm very jealious of you chap, I'm a keen muscle bike collector, and that would be the jewl in my collection!!

I've restored a couple of Aussie dragster bikes over the years, always far more fun to ride a slightly scabby original one though.

The rear fender came up like new after just a scrub with some water. I'll get back on it at the weekend and post up some more snaps. Chris

someone who 'restores' that would be amost as dumb as someone who chucked it in a skip! If its a really simple bike, yeah, but on that it would be cool ot get all the bits and pieces working again

groovy. I just found my dads old 1940s (?) raleigh in the barn and dug it out , its got a lot of patina.. perhaps too much LOL I think the rims are too rusty to work. Might give it to a mate who likes old bikes. It has 4 speed sturmey archer transmission, and dynohub for powering the lights.

Small update, as I'm currently back at my mums so have the bike to hand.
The seriel number, BE60818, translates to it being a Feb'69 bike, which only serves to make it cooler.
Urm, that's it really untill I get it to my dads.

Thats awesome cool! Personaly, if it were mine, id restore it. Looks cool as it is so take plenty of pics for the memories, but to restore it to original condition would tick plenty of boxes. Nice find.

I was once walking home curse word, and found an old 70's Sony hifi system, with amp, tuner and cassette, separates, with a separate Technics tape deck, with two wooden trimmed speakers. I managed to carry the whole lot home over 1 mile (in the beer tardis). Would it be bad if the 'owner' came out and saw them gone? I feel bad now. I still have the tape deck.

I don't see any problem with skip hunting, even if it is illegal. I'm working as a chef at the moment and the head chef doesn't mind if we eat old/returned/wasted food even though we aren't supposed to. It's the same thing.
