cams and management, maybe inlet/exhaust manifold. its all completely interchangeable aswell, although I'm not sure about the series 3(blacktop) into the earlier engines as the earlier have hydraulic tappets, series 3 had solids.
if you need a rear sump then you will need a mondeo sump, from the 2.0, also would be best using its pickup pipe.

The 130 ps has a slightly different inlet manifold too apparently for more air flow, other than that the rest has been mentioned.

how original does it have to look underneath as it looks like you are going to need a bigger hole for the engine (measure the hole in the van & the engine ) then if modding it for that you could make up some brackets for a sierra gearbox,prop & axle then you can work out how to sort the colum shift just a thought as it would make life a bit easier as you can get the parts quite easily & it should have roughly the right diff ratios 1.6,1.8 & 2.0 or what that granada in the photo as that has a wider & longer wheel base so might be more in the same dimensions of the van

I´ve been taking some measurements of the original gearbox Rian and after a bit of thought i think you might be best off keeping the original gearbox after all.
I reckon it`ll take the bhp increase in its stride, you won´t have any hassle trying to get a gearchange set up and with a bit of luck it might even fit the Zetec......
has anyone got a photo of a Zetec with the gearbox off?, i´ll take a pic of my spare gearbox and we can see whether you´ll need an adaptorplate or not. ;D

I think ultimately, 100 plus BHP in the easiest, quickest and most affordable way is what we are looking for. The Zetec had a new cambelt last year, and is a one owner , 59k mile car. We know they can do high miles if maintained. In the bus is will still be a hobby car, so limited use, but when it is on the road, I want the least hassle.

Zetec engines are in no doubt a fantastic engine but from what I have seen they can prove to be very expensive and complicated to install and get right. Before you get too involved with the new engine install, I just want to let you know that there is a cheaper alternative option that you might want to look at before you commit to the Zetec. The other option is the much underrated Ford 2.0L 8v DOHC “i4” engine. These were fitted to the MK2 Sierra’s and the Scorpio’s and were intended to replace the older Pinto engines. They were available with a carburettor or electronic fuel injection (EFI) and were both fitted with the “MT75” 5-speed manual gearbox. The Sierra and the Scorpio were both rear wheel drive cars so the engine needs no modifying like a Zetec and thus should make it a bit easier to fit into your bus. Also the Sierra and the Scorpio’s were both large Fords so the engine pushes out around 107 bhp and with the edition of a cam change and maybe a decent Webber bolted on you should be able to squeeze a few more ponies out of it.
When Clare owned her 100e I brought an i4 engine for it because I knew it would be a damn sight easier and cheaper to install, and it would have provided more than enough power for the job. Another plus side is that not many people use them so they’re cheap to buy; I only paid £50 for the complete engine! Unfortunately as you know we sold Clare’s 100e on but I did keep the engine. I’m not interested in selling the engine because I will use it on some future project but if you want to check it out and see one in the flesh then let me know and I’ll dig it out from storage.
Sorry if I’ve thrown a spanner into the works mate but I though it was worth mentioning the cheaper alternative.
Also, the I4 runs a cam chain, versus a belt, though the engine has a new one.

if i get chance in the next couple of days i will try & test fit my spare mk2 escort 4speed gearbox onto the stripped 1.8 zetec that was going in my mk4 escort so that should give you a better idea as said the twin cam I4 engine is a overlooked engine as it is the early version of the mk5/6 RS2000 engine & the larger 2.3 found in the ford galaxy ;D so now you have more problems what engine do i fit !!!!

Also, the I4 runs a cam chain, versus a belt, though the engine has a new one. Quite a few Sierra owners change the chain on high mileage engines - the I4 developed a bit of rep for snapped chains. Most seem to have been caused by the chain tensioner failing, the main cog is plastic which goes brittle with age. Thats a pic of an I4 in one of my old sierras caught just before catastrophic chain failure - the plastic cog has stripped most of its teeth allowing the chain to jump the tensioner, destroying the chain guides and start milling away at the block. On the other hand it is a nice engine just very little available in the way of off the shelf upgrade parts. If you poke around the FSOC forum there are some interesting home engineered improvements.

Don't know if you want any more info , but I done first zetec conversion on Jo's old ha about 8 years ago . Clutch I always use is an early mondeo one (cable operated) Jo has never complained of heavy operation and she is not the biggest person. Water pump turns one way on mondeos other on escorts , if you are going to use the original belt run and tensioner ,power steering etc not a problem but if you are going to reduce to just alternator, crank, water pump then escort pump is what you need (you already have that with your car). 1.8 cvh sierra starter fits the zetec, type 9 combination as well as the cvh sump. P.s I never used the after market water rail, laser cut flange for the outlet on the head , 90 degree steel bend into a rover p6 thermostat ( complete self contained unit with heater outlet) .

i hope this info is correct but to the best of my knowledge (limited) the ford inline engines used the same bolt mountings to the gearbox, as in the pre x flow, the x flow and the pinto but am unsure about the zetec and definetly not the later duratech. but if they are different the later transits use various inline engines mated to an mt75 box using an adaptor plate so if the zetec bolt pattern is different it may be possible to use a couple of transit plates back to back and drill through but i would suggest the turbosport forum as a point of call as lots of ford engine\box swaps happening there ttfn glen

The Zetec E uses the "Ford" standard bell housing pattern.

Thanks guys, all info and advice gladly received, as this is a "Blind" project for me.
I have a very capable mechanic who is taking it on, and there will be loads of learnings along the way, so every shortcut, or pretested myth will be usefull.
Pics etc , all help as well, so please feel free to post away and advise us.
