Just recieved this email and was told to alert as many people as possible. Its not a joke, this is happening about the UK, please read!
Be aware of a new hi-jacking scheme.
Here's what they do: You return to your car left in a car park, unlock your car and get inside, start the engine and shift into REVERSE and when you look into the rear view mirror to back out of your parking space you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window.
So, you either switch off the car or leave the engine running and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view... When you reach the back of the car that is when the hi-jackers appear out of no where, jump into your car and take off!
The door was unlocked, your keys were in the ignition, maybe the engine was running, (ladies would have probably left their handbag, with their purse, mobile phone etc; in the car) and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.
BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED!!!
Should this happen to you, just drive away and remove the piece of paper that is stuck to your window later....and be thankful that you read this email.
If you think appropriate, forward this to all your friends and family...especially women!
For the ladies a purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want anyone getting your home address. They already have your keys!
You may wish to circulate to your colleagues and friends

i don't think many vehicles owned by folk on here would be targetted for this kind of thing anyway.  i know for a fact i own the oldest and tattiest motors on our street. |

This was being circulated around about 2-3 years ago........they must be starting it up again  I think if I saw a piece of paper in the back window I'd just leave it there and hope it's blow whilst driving home. |

i don't think many vehicles owned by folk on here would be targetted for this kind of thing anyway. i know for a fact i own the oldest and tattiest motors on our street. ;D ;D ;D I doubt anyone would try to van jack my VW Transporter either. Plus it's got Ambulance privacy glass in the back anyway so I can't see to reverse it ;D |

Every time I go back to my car after work there`s a flyer for some diet / work from home / massage parlour etc etc under the wiper - 90mph up the bypass seems to shift them  |

Thanks very much for that......someone was standing behind my 1850HL once, think they were attempting a similar thing although I couldn't see the other guys....late at night....just kept backing up till he was almost getting pushed over and ran off.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

But THIS does happen because I've seen a video on Crimewatch
You stop at teh lights and a ratty van or similar drives gently into the back of you. Anger etc kicks in and you jump from your car to inspect the damage. While the driver of the van gets out to meet you his colleague jumps into your car and away. The shock of being hit more or less guarentees you wil leeave your keys in the ignition and/or engine running. Saw them nick an Audi TT this way.
Worst bit is your insurance will decline to cough as you left the keys in the car, due car etc. Nice of them to make allowances for human nature isn't it.
I also heard (from a BMW salesman) of one punte rwho drove his spanking new 5 series out of the showroom, parked outside an oofie opposite to buy so celebration bubbly, left the keys in the car (he was only popping in) and came out to see it heading off down the road. Bye bye 5 minute old car, bye bye £20,000, his fault!

I've heard a few of these carjacking stories, occasionally you come accross a true one (like that one about the cars nudging into the back of a motor), but most of these "be careful when you get in/out of your car" emails are urban legends, another one I've heard is the hijacker hiding underneath the victim's car until they try to get in it, then attatcking them with a knife, making off with their keys and anything else they have on them, and driving off in the car, which was of course just an urban legend and not one actual incident of that nature was reported. Not that it'd be a problem for some of you on here, it'd be quite hard to slip under someone's motor when it's slammed into the weeds! ;D ;D |
