Unusual engine choice, a good one though, that's a cracker of an engine, very tuneable and high on bulletproof!

I would think so, you'll get an engine like that, complete with the car it came from for a few hundred quid if you go for an abused old 940 estate off ebay or out the local Autotrader, the engines last forever if they're given basic maintenance, the turbo wouldn't be a hard thing to get a hold of, Volvo still make FL7s, no doubt that turbo or one like it's still in production so you could get it from a Volvo commercial dealer or a commercial breakers or similar no problem, whearas trying to find a good Cosworth YB in a decent nick for a decent price must be like finding a dentist for hens.

You're talking a grand for a YB these days B230 came with both Mitibushi and Garret T3 turbos over the years I beleive so I think there's the option to obtain a garret manifold and bid hard some cheap 2nd hand T3s.

They've been putting Volvo engines in Escorts for a while now, I have/had a CCC from 10 plus years ago where they were putting in an older Volvo 16 valve motor in. Was getting good power back then.
I seem to think that with a bit of messing around you can put a Volvo 16v head on a Pinto bottom end... not 100% about that one though.

engine choice makes sense..... ford own volvo, and the new Focus ST has the volvo 5-pot doesn't it?

yup the new Focus ST shares the same chassi and Volvo T-5 engine as the volvo S40 T-5........so when the Focus ST is winning all the rallys....thats VOLVO power and yup nowt wrong with putting a volvo engine in things 200,000 on the clock (thats the engine just run in) theres a P1800 state side with something like 2million miles on the original engine, we had a 940 clocked at 200k and we put anothr 200k on it, and weve had one with 375k on it......."Volvo belived in building quality cars" shame Ford took over
