on the episode where brewer and china did the mk2 golf - he fitted some kind of gear shift kit - remember ? was this a short shift type kit or just a service kit? eityher way, my shifts a bit sloppy and i want to 'do' it... anyone know what I'm talking about ? ;D

You can buy kits from German and Swedish that contain all the bits you need to overhaul the regular shift linkage. Must do it to mine, apparently it can make a big difference! Stu did it to his Mk2, I think he added a weighted mechanism thingie to it, adapted from a Mk3 unit... He's the one to speak to

I'd go for the regular overhaul kit first - see how much of a difference it makes before spending more cash!

i remember them having to overhaul the gear mech on the mk1 they did (the white one), did they do a mk2 too?
my mate's got a mk2 and he swears by his weighted linkage.

Just fit the linkage repair kit, the weighted shift rod is a standard Mk 3 part and makes a difference. The short shift kit is about 10 minutes with some heat, a big hammer and a big vice ;D £50 There are some instructions somewhere on how to do it, possibly on Matey matey.com ? If I find it I`ll post it up, but if you google uk for golf short shift it will come up HTH Dom

they did a mk1
weighted shift and short shift cost about 40 ish quid
rebuild kit just bushes and stuff about 15 quid
you want rods and full jobbie 100 quid
wheeler dealers on at 9 lancia grale on again ;D
