Got the Polo booked in for an MoT at 9am. I had to... Rebuild the rear brakes, some muppet before me had left the self adjusters out and bled them through so have a nice pedal now. Change the front ARB bushes. Fix the windscreen washers, 1V at the pump ;D, it was a dirty contact on the stalk. Fit some new wipers. I'll take it for a blast up the ring road on the way there and get it nice and hot and bed the brakes in as I have used it for just over a week. (why am I more nervous at getting an MoT result than I was getting exam results at uni ;D)

Hmmm, failed Offside registration plate lamp not working, I had sorted it the other day but its gone again now. Horn does not function, I sorted that the other day too, another dodgy connection. N/S/F and O/S/F flexible brakes hoses deteriorated, hadn't checked them stupidly but picked new ones up for £7 each on the way back Fuel pipe under car insecure, somebody before me has replaced a flexible line and left it too long No more free re-tests though with the new computerised system, they'll rob me of another £25 on top of the fee Better get cracking then, I just think of Racer86s enthusiasm at times like this and get on with it

No more free re-tests though with the new computerised system, they'll rob me of another £25 on top of the fee WHAT? when i take mine for an MoT, i might just stand in the street and empty my wallet into a drain. that'll get me used to the feeling of throwing my money away before i get to the test centre. by my calculations, if this had been true when my bird's mondeo got mot'ed, it would have cost me £180! it's alright for people like yourself (and to some extent me) who can check the car over before you get there, you've got a good chance of only needing one test or one retest at the most. for someone trying to do the work themselves it may need two or three retests before it passes. for someone who trusts the garage and doesn't want to keep restesting they might be forced to stump up for loads of 'just in case' work. i despair sometimes, i really do. all this so they can issue tax discs online, cutting out the post office, yet cunning not dropping the price despite the lower costs of issuing it.
