Princess ones carry a serious Ford scene tax these days, plus I'd still be struggling to get them under the 13's Anyhooo, these evenings work has gone something like this; A little bit of turning This allows the Capri discs to fit to the hubs concentrically, and to also move the disc centre somewhere near the original That was followed by a little drilling Unfortunately the Ford bolt pattern didn't quite match the Triumph one and rather than slot the holes I redrilled them and reamed them to size to ensure there is absolutely no chance of either 'run out' or sloppy bolts Whilst I had the dividing head on the Bridgeport, I figured I may as well add a few grooves to the discs A quick coat of paint and the hubs/discs are ready to fit back to the car tomorrow Hopefully my new seal kit and braided flex hoses will turn up tomorrow too don't they just.... they were about £25 a pair from the breakers last time I bought any. I was put off using them when I was told Id have to grind them down to fit my Revvies.

Meh, Princess callipers are for posers . Great idea on the brakes there Mr. Speedy. As the mod said, things only seem to get better with this car.

Thanks for all the comments guys Well, at appears that my maths do sometimes add up! Last night saw the new discs mounted on the hubs, so tonight saw the hubs mounted on the stub axles, closely followed by the brake calipers Caliper sits nicely centred over new discs. You can see the 1/8" spacers I needed to machine for the caliper mounting A little clearance but not much! Time will tell how long the dust covers will stand the heat from the discs Finished off with new copper link pipes and Goodridge stainless hoses I'm rather pleased with how 'O.E.' the finished conversion looks. I have had to lose the dust shield, but that also has an advantage because the new discs are vented from the rear (oooh errr missus) so the lack of dust shield ensures a nice unobstructed flow of air to cool the discs. Who knows, there may even be some ducting appear

Looks good mate, nice and neat.
How much did it end up costing you?

How much did it end up costing you? Well, bear in mind that I do all my own machining The discs cost me around £30 and the spacer kit was £32 IIRC The Goodridge hoses were the single most expensive items at £58 for the set of 4, but they're not essential for the conversion. So parts wise, the total was £140 for the discs, spacer kit, braided hoses and EBC Ultimax pads Add a bit for machining and quite a cheap conversion imho

Well, apperntly the inside of my wheels isn't flat! The outer most edge of the calipers were just catching the inside edge of the wheels, so a quick session on the lathe and Bridgeport again saw a pair of 2mm Aluminium spacers made up. No pics tho as I was just ploughing on with it. Anyways, the wheels fit up and there's about 1mm clearance now, but it all spins nicely. I've just spent the last 2 hours changing the rear flex hoses for the spangly new Goodridge ones, so we're all ready for a bleeding session. That won't happen until Sunday when I'll get my kids to help me. All looking good tho Hopefully the hoses alone will improve pedal feel and we'll see how well the new brakes work

If my Stag is anything to by with the braided hoses I quite surprised a Stag specialist near to me who sells 'original' Stag when he took it for a spin ("the brakes are good, very good in fact, are they upgraded?), and that is on a car with stock brakes all round . Great progress as always .

Thanks. Well, having thoroughly bled the brake system and having partially bedded them in, I can happily report an improvement in momentum reduction for less effort applied to the pedal. Not mind blowing 'plant your face on the windscreen' type brakes, but definately improved and a more positive feel through my foot. So, in conclusion, the new brake system seems to be a good move!

They'll more fade resistant, which can only be a good thing when youve got a big lump of iron up front!

Fantastic work Mr. S!
Really neat and considered conversion! I love seeing threads like this with propper, swarf-producing engineering in them. I wish I had a lathe...

Thanks peeps I knw I'm not a great pioneer of this conversion, but I believe it's the first time that it's been done without washers behind steering arms etc! Had a nice 'spirited' drive home from the Blue Lias gathering on Wednesday, and the brakes are definately more positive and confidense inspiring Currently considering some subtle ducting to further enhance the cooling

Well, on the way home from Santa Pod yesterday it seems that my clutch pedal decided it would rather be a lot nearer the floor than it should be and not clear roperly, so guess what I'll be doing tonight!

Checking the slave cylinder that gets too hot, then looking at the clutch actuator arm/release bearing??
just a guess.... ;-)

Turns out it was little more than a lack of fluid I always find hydraulic systems work much better when filled with the appropriate liquid rather than air. Literally the ONLY level I didn't check before yesterdays little jolly to Santa Pod! *Facepalm*

For some time now I've had thoughts about putting something on the roof to break up the whiteness of it all. What with the Jubilee and now the Olympics (neither of which I particularly care for) I thought, "Hmmmm, I wonder if a Union Jack would suit it?" I know it's a bit 'Mini' and could even be considered a UK version of being a Redneck, but that's not the intention. Anyways, lets make with the pictures; I rather like it ;D In other news, inspired slightly by ChasR's vibration issues on his Stag, I thought I'd attend to my own vibrations. Ever since I did the gearbox conversion and fitted the wheels I've had nasty 'rumbley' vibrations at anything over 60mph, so, over the last couple of evenings I took the gearbox out (again I'm getting quick at this now) and fitted a new tailshaft bearing and oil seal. Whilst I had the thing apart, I also fitted new U/Js in the propshaft and remachined the end I'd previously welded (to create the 'Hybrid' shaft) to remove any odd lumps of weld and balance things up a bit. This was finished off with some Ghetto Jubilee clip balance weights and all ballanced up on the car up on axle stands. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better. It was also at this point I rememered that the rear wheels had never been balanced so that should improve things even further

Oh no,now we have a white Vitesse and a white Herald with the same roof adorment, how will we tell them apart?

I remember doing something similar to the inside of my Volvo 740 years ago . It looks good I must say. As for copying a Mini, not even close IMO .
