Even though the mocked it a bit on 5th gear they gave the idea a pretty positive spin. It didn't end with him having it crushed and wheel spinning off in his M3 as expected. I got a Volvo 360 with 10months mot and Tax years ago for £100. I'd like to say it was a bargain but I didn't think it possible to break down that often. My mate who travelled the same road about 30 minutes after me always used to slow down for a specific layby on the road as I was broken down in that layby so often.

My Volvo cost me in the neighbourhood of £150, and aside from me blowing up the rear end, has seen trouble free motoring for over a year!

I only seem to run bangers, and for my sins seem to love them too! not everyone can live with a shabby old car though. Some 'bangers' wind up with 4 figures after 1-3 years but meh, all cars cost summat, unless you are savvy like mystery machine, nice work man. It wasn't always meant to be this way, oh no, as a kid I dreamed of buying a brand new 1987 car. damn I'd be lucky to do that! NOS? Balls to new cars, maybe when I have my dream retro custom fleet or my dream job then we'll see...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I brought a citroen XM for £50 on the way back from the pub at midnight the day my 200sx got squished.. ran it for a year and it was faultless.. aside from all the wiring being black Eventually decided to smarten it up so brought another one for the door (£150) which I then sold for £200 with the dodgy door on.. drove mine for another six months till the pads got so low they welded themselves to the discs! Sold it for £100. I LOVE bangers!

i agree they did put a positive spin on it,i was surprised about that too
ive ran old cars since most of my mates have had about 3 or 4 brand new or amlost new cars and ive heard 1st hand the terrible depriciation on them, cant spell that word!! one bmw 3 series he lost 11k i think in 18mths,honda prelude vtec 4 wheel steering job, another 10k i was down the garage my brother works at,a new set of tyres going on some 20" range rover wheels were 0„5500 each!
I'm sticking with my modern , a J reg polo until the Ami is fixed,as i think it is immune from road salt and rust in some strange way !

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good to be honest. I'd expect everyone here to agree with the sentiment yep, it was a bit of a shed they bought but there was a definite positive spin.

positive spin or not, doors falling off isn't a great show unless its all about entertaining, and 5th gear isn't as much into that (are they?)
i bought my mum a £75+auction fee '95 Favorit Estate with 6 months test on it, about 3 or 4 years ago. just done the second thermostat at about a tenner a time, and smartened up some rust blips on the doors. oh yeah and its had two sets of wipers and a set of bulbs. and 5 tyres or so, most of which came from my stockpile from cars i've broke. that's not much really, even less if you consider shes maybe put about 90k miles on it...

my old man broke down in cornwall some years ok and his car was well had it. cost him £80 and used it for years but it was to far gone so I looked in the paper and see a polo for £30 with tax and test till the end of the month. he did over 800 miles in it over 3 weeks as he was staying with me for a bit when I lived down that way. the polo had half a tank of fuel and about £6 in the ash tray. my old man kept the bat as it was new and I gave the car to a mate for free and he used it for 3 years needing no cash spent on it at all. my old man got the AA to take him home.
my old man never spends more that £100 to £200 on a car. he swops them sells them on. now he has a 1989 old cutlas. he swoped a £100 car for a £200 and so on and so on.

The missus' Perodua Nippa (which a few on here slagged off when we said we bought it) cost us £500 two years ago from a dealer in Llanelli. He threw in a year's MoT, six months tax and a part exhaust. It's since covered 20,000 miles with us, and has had nothing other than servicing (and a set of tyres) since. Always starts first time, 50mpg+, cheap tax and insurance too. Fantastic little motor!

Wait wait wait. You have a Bonneville, Corsica, and a Cutlass in the UK?
