I've been meaning to do this for aaaaaages now , I thought it would work okay ..
I got a carpet for a Viva last year but it was beige .
Nowt wrong with beige but I want a black interior..
So here is a manky beige carpet - mmm nice.
And this is your average , supermarket machine dye. Got it in Sainsburys , cost £3.90 per packet.
Now this next bit is probably better if your gf/wife/mum is out of the house ...
Stick about 3 inches of hot water in the bath , emptying the packets of dye in at the same time .
Keep giving it a swirl around . GLOVES ARE HANDY AT THIS STAGE
And then put the carpet in...
No , the grimy marks aren't off me , that'll be the dye then ! And the slightly worrying bit is , when you're swirling it around it looks blue for some reason , not black..
Oh and don't laugh at the colour of me bathroom suite - peach is for winners . ( We're changing it v.soon , so if it all went horribly wrong and I ended up with a bath that looked like a mint humbug then it wouldn't have mattered anyway ;D )
Keep 'squashing ' the carpet down gently into the water - if you're too eager you get dye splashing about all over the place !
After about 15-20 mins drain the bath. You could leave it for longer I suppose but I tested a corner of the carpet and the dye appeared to have taken okay.
Shower away any excess ( that took about 45mins )
Hang on line to dry .
One black carpet - hurrah
The bath was ever so slighty er , MANKY when I'd finished but 5 mins with the bathroom cleaner and a sponge and it was fine tbh.
If you're not allowed to do it inside the house then I reckon an old plastic dustbin would suffice .
Only downside was trying to get rid of the excess dye . Shoving it over a washing line and blasting it with a hose/jet washer would have done the trick a bit quicker I reckon
