ok... I'm loving the slammed look of the skud, but at the moment the car is lower on the drivers side by about 25mm...
could this be down to the weight of the driver on one side all the time causing the springs to sag?? ...
or could it indicate the springs being cut unequally??
Either way i think the springs need replacing...
I want to keep the slammed look... so...
Can i buy uprated lowered springs to improve the ride abit??? ...
or shall i just buy stock replacement springs and cut them... giving the same ride, but hopefully an even stance.
Cheers

It could be down to the gas insert and not the spring. If you're lowering it by anymore than 30mm (I think), you're advised to buy uprated inserts. Or, you could have just eaten too many pies!

It could be down to the gas insert and not the spring. If you're lowering it by anymore than 30mm that will depend on the travel though. We are taking inches out of the 411 but theres loads of travel so it wont be a problem. my benz has suffered exactly the same, sags like your granny tits on the drivers side. Typically it will be the spring to go and i will be changing them asap .... if you take your springs off it should be easy to check if they are cut equally or not. If its your springs you should be able to tell when driving too - my benz wallows about SO much, and its a nightmare on left handers.

Cheers guys...
it feels ok when driving... corners like a beast!! ... but due to the drivers side being lower the front tyre rubs when corning hard left.
instead of cutting new standard springs can i buy lowered springs?? will i hav to buy skoda rapid ones or will i be able to fit aftermarket ones intended for another car???
same question with the shocks... i don't know where i could buy uprated ones... will ones intended for another car fit???

its unlikely springs from another car will fit. I have no knowledge of whats compatible with skodas though.
You can easily fit new lowered spring to the skoda, that are designed for your vehicle. You may need to fit new struts, but that depends on the travel the current ones have.

I'm planning to lop a few coils off the Polo springs next weekend, am I right in thinking that the spring rate will be different as there is less coils to take the same loading and that the car will be softer?

I'm planning to lop a few coils off the Polo springs next weekend, am I right in thinking that the spring rate will be different as there is less coils to take the same loading and that the car will be softer? i think I'm right in saying the spring rate will stay the same. I'm sure Rmad will be here soon to confirm either way.

Depends how you are going to drive your car but personally I am not a big fan of chopping springs and I would always advocate buying lowered and uprated. Particularly if you are going to be driving your car hard. If you are just doing it for the look and don't intend driving your car on the limit then thats fine. Unless they are progressive or dual rate springs then most springs will have the same spring rate throughout the spring. So if you cut standard rate springs you stand more chance of either the hitting the bumpstops or the shocks bottoming out. One thing you can do to increase the stiffness of the suspension. Is to fit extra bump rubbers to the dampers and this effectively increases the spring rate either throughout the range if you fit them to the full length of the piston rod or give a bit of extra stiffness at the limit if you only put one or two extra ones on. Its what Russ Swift always used to do on his demo cars. www.coilsprings.co.ukTry this place for getting a set of springs made to your spec. I am sure suplex or pi will do lowered uprateds for skuds.

i've seen rapids run upgraded shocks on standard springs. should you want to upgrade the whole system then spax and avo do full lowering set ups. I'm not sure how low these go, but my mates Rapid is running competion suspension and is quite low,

I think the other company might be Gaz, although I'm probably wrong, no relation GAZ, the Russian car company! ;D
