Remember the roofrack I bought in Bournemouth a few weeks ago... ? Did not fit, so had to buy 100mm x 6mm ally bar. 2.5m ally was £30 Processed it, and paid engineering shop £20 to do bends in plate. Total cost, my labour not included. Few pics of process. Plate cut to size, drilled all holes, marked out, took to engineering shop, beltsander to the rescue.... and fitted to the bus. Easy. Fetched on trailer from Bournemouth. Too narrow..... so needed to make new brackets. Jigsaw Hydraulic presses damage metal... beltsander helped a lot. Side view.

Sign on door was ms Grizz's contribution to keep skinny Polish birds at bay.
Plan was to make it look factory.

I notice that the originals taper - definitely wider at the bottom than the top. I reckon that replicating the taper would make them look better still.

love the work and thought process involved , but tbh i think a vw splitty type period roof rack would so suit that van , your van is absolutely awesome. the roof rack you have would look more at home on a landie. please don't take this as a negative comment , my hat goes off to you for the work and thought that has gone into this. keep it up mate. ade

Problem is I do not want the bus to look too much like a scene taxed car. The rack with mods cost me around £220, which is waaaay over the odds for me, but I am working with the final incarnation in mind. Rack is off a Mitsubishi Delica.... so 4x4 is correct.

Sign on door was ms Grizz's contribution to keep skinny Polish birds at bay. Feel free to send them my way! Van is looking good, I do agree that putting a taper on the brackets would make them look a bit less agricultural. I can appreciate how much work it would be without a band saw though! What are your plans for paint on it?

Answer to paint question is on about page 23 of the bus thread in my signature. I'd read that thread a few times over and forgotten about that, doh! Thumbs up on the plan, although it's a shame you've had to touch the paint thats on it, I love the decals on the doors, I'd be upset to lose them.
