Hi there all,
INFO NEEDED PLEASE.
Does anyone have access to a free, or very cheap, donation type trade CO2 gasbottle, or even a "size Y" CO2 or ARGON-Mix bottle from an old welding setup for me ?
Prefer to collect in the greater Kent area, or Croydon and Greenwich is good.
I did go to the local tip today and there was a very tidy/new one and when I asked, the answer was "Property of the Council when it touches the ground here "
I want to get it refilled to use on the welder I bought today.
PM please, if you have or know where to point me to.

co2 is ok for mig welding but to be honest you get better results with the argon/co2 mix. only trouble is now boc is labelling all their bottles with serial number tags which are now logged against you account with them ,. so its near on impossible to get a hookie bottle refilled. co2 tends to leave nasty brown staining around the weld and its penetration/soaking area isnt as good as argon/co2 mix. i tried the co2 route , ended up biting the bullet and opening a boc account. looked at all the suppliers and they all seemed around the same price for rental and refill. the little bottles from halfrauds don't last long enough. by the time youve brought enough of them to repair a car it would be cheapper to get an account.

Machine I bought is set up for refill bottles. I am getting a kickoff CO2 bottle and gas free, for the work I need right now, I am happy to go cheap, and get to know the machine etc....
Bottle I want is to get a 2nd one filled and on standby, as running out at 5pm on a Saturday over bank holiday weekends must be maddening.
Oxford and Didcot is not that far.... so who knows maybe I take Nicola out to the outlet centre on a romantic drive, and do a loop to Didcot in the next few weeks....
In the mean time still looking closer to Kent.

stick your head in at your local pub , slip the landlord a few quid for a bottle. there is a kit that allows all mig welders that are set up for dispposable bottles to be converted to full size bottles with real propper regulators. think machine fart stock them.

I looked in the Yello Pages for gas suppliers, found a local one in a small unit.
Gave me a bottle for £50.00 mine to keep and said a fiver to fill it up when I needed it. Bottle checked and stamped etc. but no rental and no wasted time trying to get any sense from your local boozers, lol.
