Saw some kids going to a prom night in some 50s americana yesterday,i did'nt have my glasses on so i could'nt tell what it was.And i saw some nutter in a mustang doing the same, but he thought it was cool to do a burnout on the garage fourcourt .I'm surprised they turned down the Vitesse as i thought that they wanted the most unusual car they could get,as stretched hummers are so last year!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmm interesting idea but it does have risks. I work licensing taxis and limos and you do need a licence to do this both for your car and yourself. This is a long and quite expencive process. You need CRB checks and need to do a locality test and allsorts and if you do it without these licences you will get a court appearence and probably a fine and in our area they make sure there is someone out enforcing on prom nights looking for unlicensed cars/drivers and overfilled cars. You can get round it by not charging but normally they find out if you do actually charge (put a 16yo in a police car and they normally tell the truth). Just a thought.

I don't get it, all they'd be doing is giving some girl a lift which has been pre arranged and they get paid for it, it's not as if they're trawling the streets offering a taxi service to drunks.

Yea but it comes under hire and reward which means you need proper insurance with public liability. You also need a licence to make sure the car that is going to pick you up is fully safe to carry passengers and to make sure the driver isnt going to rape you. Its very like a taxi service really you can get private hire taxis aswell as hackneys.

And how exactly would a police officer go about arresting you for that? If I really wanted (assuming I had a drivers license) I could give the girl next door a lift to town and ask for some cash in return, nowt illegal about it. If I was to advertise the fact that I was offering lifts in exchange for cash (a taxi service essentially) then I can see it being a problem.

Exactly, even if an officer was to see her handing you a wad of cash as she exited the car he has absolutely no proof that the cash was in exchange for a lift, and even then it's not illegal and so you could tell him if you really wanted.

It's just occured to me what a sweet job this prom limo thing must be.
Driving some flash as heck motor whilst 16 year old girls wearing low cut party frocks swig lambrini in the back, and then they dish you out money!
