Hi All,
I seem to have acquired yet another old Golf, quite a special one this though. I knew the guy who built it years ago and always had my eye on it in case it came up for sale.
It's actually a joint purchase with my friend as we already owned a Mk2 16v track car that we'd built up but when I saw this up for sale a deal had to be struck.
It's a track prepared Mk1 GTI with lots of modifications, will list the spec below but here's a few pics.
The interior is kind of 'minimalist' as you can see:
Oh, it's got one of these under the bonnet. ABF 2.0 16v, ported & polished head, four branch etc. Several rolling road graphs for between 180 and 200bhp - the car weighs 800kg... it goes!
Like's to adopt the 'tripod' stance on corners. Not me driving I might add, one of the previous owners who also should be credited for a lot of these photo's too:
Spec as follows:
ENGINE:
- 2.0 ABF Bottom End.
- Baffled sump.
- Oil cooler and sandwich plate
- 4 branch Ashley manifold with 2.5" Jetex Rally system
- P&P 'Shed' Head & KR Cams
- K-jet injection with modified WUR
- K&N Panel Filter
GEARING:
- Gearbox Rebuild Mk1 FD box in ACD casing (16v ratios with 3.89 final drive)
- Helix triple organic clutch
- Lightened flywheel
- Peloquin LSD.
- Quick shift (rose jointed) with extended gear lever.
CHASSIS:
- Avo Coilovers
- Solid adjustable eccentric top mounts
- Polybushed
- Eibach Anti Roll bars
- Front lower and Rear upper Strut braces
- 2deg neg rear camber, 2.5deg neg front camber
BRAKES:
- Studs front and rear for easier wheel changing
- G60 front brakes (280's) EBC Yellow Stuff pads
- Rear drums standard
WHEELS/TYRES:
- 15" Track Day multispoke wheels with R888s.
- 15" Multispokes with T1R daily tyres
STEERING:
- Quaiffe Quick Steering Rack
- Revised geometry - Ball joint spacers and rose jointed track rods
INTERIOR:
- Fully stripped
- 6 point Rollcentre cage with Harness bar
- Radiator fan override switch
- Cobra Monaco buckets with LUKE harnesses
- Polycarbonate windows
It's pretty hardcore then!
Needs a bit of tinkering here and there and a few niggles sorting out but generally all good and ready for some track action.
In terms of acceleration it is absolutely brutal, by far the quickest thing I've ever driven. The lower gearing, LSD, lightweight and high power make it absolutely fly. The handling is also like nothing else I've been in, it corners like it is on rails after all the suspension modifications, very hard on the road though so I might adjust the settings a little to soften it up.
I've not had it on track yet (soon!) but there are a lot of video's from previous owners on YouTube etc.
This is the lad that built it doing an 8:50 BTG 'Ring lap in 2006:

What do you think?
