right ..... collected the 411 on saturday. got it back to my mates for early afternoon. The quick plan clearly went straight out the window once we got the seats out. Although the body is pretty good, the floor is shocking. Its gonna need surgery to the floor (both sides) two small patches at the front, welding to the rear of the chassis, and it seems theres a nasty surprise for us hidden behind the passenger rear wing. Anyway, we got the front patched, chopped an enormous section out the passenger floor, checked my old rims fitted, chopped the springs (still needs more outta them) .... and swore lots. Lets see how many weekends this takes then ..... old porsche rims replaced with beetle rims (and ive never seen another set of these!) a lot of this happened over the weekend ... a nice arty garage shot that my mate took

- Arty shot is loverly - Any idea where the bug wheels came from - what you doing with the porsche wheels and adaptors? - I may be able to help out with a contact for the floors and other bits if you are interested, but they may also be the people we had a little chat about that I can't really recommend... but if you're desperate... -wish I had a garage

the bug wheels were on my bug when i originally bought it. I havent a clue about their history, no one seems to have ever seen them before, and there seems to be no identifying mark on them at all.
Garages are awesome, and my mates is superb. Especially as it has a pit!
The wheels and adaptors will be sold.

This one is looking great as it is especially on a budget, rims look good, and i like the twin headlights. Good luck with the weld.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

The unidentified wheels? I think they're BRM, marketed by Firestone in the 70's. I'll try and find a piccy tonight.

So, what was the best bit about the 411? Here's a couple of pictures of the Firestone BRM wheels. Don't know whether this BRM is the same as the BRM who make more common Cal-look wheel, I'm no expert on VW wheels. Ignore what second picture says about 13" fitment (5-stud 13"?) - the bottom of the ad above states MkII available only as 14" (though 15's came later). In 1973 they cost £10.33 each mail order, with carriage for a set of 4 at 50p!

mate, that is quality! i dunno how you knew that, SO many people had never seen them before!! Nice one! The quality bit about the 411 is that the rear seat folds forward to form a double bed in the back!!! Oh, and the interior light is awesome. It doesnt have an on/off switch - it kinda pivots in the middle like a see-saw. So you rock it left and it turns on, and to the right it turns off!
