While I am battling my Hearse through its MOT ready for sale, SWMBO and I have come to a consensus on the next car, a Subaru Legacy wagon. Only thing is, while I like them and she is able to tolerate them, what are they like? Any known issues with them? Are they a nice drivers car? We will be looking at 2.0L Manual NA ones as the budget wont stretch to running a twin turbo beastie! We will be looking at an S or an R plate one as these seem ridiculously good value! Many thanks and have some suitable legacy images as payment! Rysz.

O RLY?! ;D
In all seriousness, they're nice motors. Punch engine, even the two-litre, which really wakes up beyond 4000rpm - like most Japanese motors.
Downsides are power steering that's wonderful for car parks, but too light at speed and suspension which is a little firm - though having a Rover P6 and a 2CV for comparison isn't very fair! Dare I say it, they're a little bit bland too. Mind you, that's one reason that you can get them so cheap - that and a perceived drinking issue. 30-32 mpg isn't bad I don't reckon.

i had a 1994L 2.0 estate , did 160000 miles in three years shopfitting with tools ,blokes on board etc , used to tow my boat about most weekends, and generally hammered it , it was indestructable, slightly noisy [boxer] and balnd but all in all one of the best ever workhorses i,ve owned, reccomended!

Love my Legacy Estate Turbo... bought it at 105K miles... now on 145k miles, only replaced the alternator, other than serviceable parts (cam belt, plugs, filters, tyres). would recommend them. engine and chassis is basically same as impreza so parts are cheap s/h.
