Hang on a minute. You picked up a what... £50k car 9 years ago for £2900? Bloody hell. That's not fail, that's mega win! In fact that's top end for an LS, can be found even cheaper. My 1998 Lexus GS300 has only 120k on the clock, full service history, but isn't even worth 2k! I keep hearing how you can pick up a 2 week old second hand Lexus for like 50p because nobody wants them but my buying experiance says otherwise. Of the 6 LS400 within an acceptable driving distance and priced under £3K two were up at £2995 - mine and one the same but in silver which sold same day the ad went up. There were 4 others, all pre face lift at £1495 - £1995 type money but you could see why they were cheaper... If I wanted a GS300 I found 8 or 9 of them from £595 to £1750 type money in my area, but I didn't look at any of them. No V8 = no sale. I also looked at S class Mercs, S type Jag V8 and Jag Sovereign as well as a Cadillac SLS (UK RHD one). Its amazing what you can buy for sensible money.

No sell out there, I'm sure most petreolheads would love to waft around in big a Lexus. & i recon thats money very well spent. I bet it never fails to start either. I use a 328 e36 as a daily now. I love the 200 brake strait six & auto box. Its real lazzzzy like. & just over 2k for the privilage. was £32k 9 years ago.

Keep it a year then you'll get £2K scrappage for it against a brand newbie! Seriously though, nice ride. Comfiness and reliability suddenly becomes more important when you reach a certain age. ;D

As nice as retro and classics are, it is great to get dirty, skin knuckles and curse nonstop, if you have a modern as a backup. I am lucky to have a daily luxobarge, and have to say, had it not been that way, the solution would be pretty obviously a barge in retro guise.
Well done AK.

I'm a sell out too then, as i've got a modern. In my case £35 a year road tax and 65mpg with aircon is just too good to ignore. Besides what would I use to fetch parts for the 205 in?
Love the Lexus or as Alan Partridge called them 'the japanese mercedes', and I can't wait to see it.
Perhaps the sell out bit is when you fail to use the time saved by having a reliable modern, on getting the retros' up and running.

Should have bought an old merc, same sense of luxobargeness with more style than the Lexus and bits don't fall of them like with most old cars.

I preferred it to the Mercs TBH. Many 90s Mercs seem to be rot boxes unfortunately. 70s or 80s I'd give you Merc quality but in the 90s it seemed to go a bit wrong with them. Also they didn't seem to offer anything between a S320 (too slow!) and the S500. I have nothing against the S500 but there were hardly any about and very few in my price range and all a bit far to go look (not to mention high miles, unattractive colours etc.)
I also discovered today my Lexus is some special edition or special model which has factory revised suspension (lower and upraded) as well as some other performance and luxury extras.
Which is nice to know. I already forgot what its called though. LOL.

I fail too then, I've just bought a 93 (L) LS400 in Boston Green with Beige Leather. Paid very little, and it now features a decent ammount of Tax and a years MOT

I like it! I reckon Lexus overtook MB in the 1990's, quality-wise. It was during Mercedes' "accountants building cars" period...
Will it be making an appearance at the Fry-Up Meet this weekend?

Our daily driver is an 1989 audi 80 not sure if that counts as retro tho. We happily drive it everyday and take it on long trips all over the UK.
We are having to be nice at the mo as the gearbox is making alot of noise and am getting round to fixing it.
I must admit i am surprised how many people have modern cars

Working for me and I don't blame you. I find driving a reliable modern compliments the old bangers I have and vice versa. Lexarse looks a flaming nice car and well worth the dosh.
