Rest of van is not tidy so it's no retro resto or owt just another 12 months of rubbish hauling Just cut it out!! Floor edge and inner sill, 2 down 3 to go

Ugh. Don't start a project like that unless your heart is really in it. I love my Anglia to bits but if I'd known how much work it was going to be there is no way I'd have started it ;D

...well you've done this much too it, may as well see it out if the rest of the van is 'passable'...
I know where you are coming from though; I had a toyota sprinter that I did a real nice welding job on the sills; got its NCT, and I sold the car; a week later the next owner wrote it off; I got my 'six pieces of silver' for it, but I couldnt help wondering if all those hours on my back were completely pointless... Looks like a nice 'job' BTW...

You have more determination than I. I could no way have summoned up enough enthusiasm to do that much welding on such a car. I know everything has potential and all that, but some things just have the potential to cause grief. Nice going!

You know, about 6 years ago when I started welding the chevanne everyone thought I was mad for even attempting it. "its a van - get a newer one" was the usual refrain. Welding looks nice, BTW

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

These vans are slowly disappearing, well probably, One shot out of a slip road last night on motorway, text book sporty escort stock alloys, and a small blurt of diseasel smog as it swung across a couple of lanes. from the back they almost look retro, the vans have not changed a lot over the years at all, till recent maybe. Its from the front and living with it that would test me, never say never though! Well done on the recycling. Extended life vehicle and all that. Many others would have srapped in a heart beat though. Oh and have Ford learned to rust proof yet? bloody things.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I was the same when one of the mudflaps fell off my Scirocco, taking a piece of arch with it. 20 mins later there was a hole in the inner wing, floor and sill you could fit your fist through (both sides). I spent weeks welding it through the summer, and everyone (particularly the wife) said I was nuts. I MOT'd it (tester commented on the good quality of welding) then got fed up and sold it. The new owner wrote it off within 2 weeks, but as has already been said, I got back what it owed me, plus a little bit for my weeks spent with the welder, but it still hurts! (every time I look at the welding burn scar on my right arm!)

well I rescued that side and the other not so bad side is on its way, it was shorter in length but wentt across and into the chassis rail under the drivers feet!! looking round it I found plenty of old patchwork so seem to be on its way out i fear. Up to this mark I think the escy van is ok, next door has a later one again but its changed a bit too far i think, rusty too so no they havent sorted out the rot problem

I've fragged quite a few rusty Mk6s, mainly at the rear arches/sills. Strangely enough i aint seen a Mk5 for yonks, i've fragged more Mk3s than Mk5s over the last year or so ?
