Now, I'm waiting to do stuff to my cedric in a week or so (engine swap ) but had a hankering to get some other stuff done. I'm no ICE expert, or too finniky about how 'perfect' it sounds in a car, I just like it loud and with the whole sound range audible. My plans for the Cedric basically consist of 2 6x9's and 1 sub in the boot - nothing fancy. EXCEPT I don't want all the modern shizzle on show. So, for the sub, I concocted this today: Go to car boot sale and aquire old trunk for £10: Plenty of space in that!: looks pretty well travelled, and exactly what I was looking for Go to Halfrauds and pick up cheap active bass woofer unit: Errrgh, horribly modern and intrusive 10 mins of attacking later: Ta-da! Check for positioning: Grab some fresh 15mm MDF and mark it up: Cut it up accordingly: Excellent: Install some supports for below, cut at appropriate angles: All good! and once in the boot, all the modern nastiness is hidden away! Successful afternoon. Just need to decide on what to cover the MDF with (probably sackcloth) and pop some wire holes and a porting hole in the back where it cant be seen!

You're going to want to line that in Dynamat, or it will not sound pretty, In fact, it may be even better to work out what sort of volume the original box had, and then make a seperate enclosure inside the trunk to replicate that, otherwise it may sound either too flat or boomy. Can never remember which way it goes if your box is too big/small. Awesome mod though....

I'd add some ports in the side, the Bass speaker will move air when it's going so there needs to be somewhere for it to go. Add some port holes and put some sealant around the edges of the board that it's mounted on, £10 for the trunk was a great buy.....Good find. ;D

Looks like a good buy that, should look good when it's finished too.And all for not much cash monies I like installs like this, when they're done "sympathetically" and not just wanged out the back. Good work Mr.S

That's pretty cool, I too don't like stereos all standing out above everything else. Looks like that's all you care about. Nice work with that install, will the trunk lid be up? Just thinking about vibrations. I agree about re-installing the sub box inside the trunk and adding the port holes for better sound. Nice work.

hiding internal speakers is easy, you just mount them under the shelf/inside the door cards and cover with acoustically transparent cloth, pretty much all speakers will come designed for surface or flush mounting these days.

Nice! I love set-ups like these. Here's what i'm doing for my squareback. I took apart an old 7-up soda crate, and formed the sides around a box w/ an 8" sub. I agree on the tweed covering!
