Well, the bus will get a roofrack.... mainly as an anchor point for the annexe tent I want to add to it. And also as a tut carrier. Below are pics, and the question is, Do I enlarge this one, making it wider and taller, or are there roofracks somewhere that I can acquire or even swop for the one I have ? I measured the width of the rain gutters, and the basic height of the curve of the roof..... Width = 1450mm Height = 250mm Height included some space for sagging when loaded. Thanks for your opinions, views and advice. Roofrack I have currently:

Looking at the pics I would say you'd need one that's both longer and wider ? There are loads of old skool style racks available to fit VW vans which look to be a similar size to the Ford ? you could try somewhere like just kampers or similar . Alternatively it should be easy enough to modify the one you've already got

You've been telling me you were a genius since you were seventeen ... in all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean !

Thanks Gotwood, Modifying is an option, but if there is one out there at sensible money then I would rather have a neat one, and I do agree, larger will be better but not really lookas right to me, I like the rear quarter, third look. However, I want to attach an awning, or side tent to the side or rear door, and the roofrack makes for an easy anchor point.
I guess the scentaxed ones will be silly money, which I would be happy to live without.

saw a full length bus sized one at volksworld on the aircooled stand- show price £595 use some of that old bed hiding in your spares shed? how about a pair of roof bars and a nicely fabbed up rack portion to sit on top of some ordinary halfords rails? could be a way round a stupid price roof rack and get something designed to do what you require.

Good thinking Edd, I just realised the ugly ones builders vans get, along with some other fabrication may be just the ticket.... and yes, it is part of an old bedframe. Cannot see stuff like that being binned. I will look around, and give it some thought.

They are stupid, scene tax really bumps them up, mine cost £50 and that was on mates rates

Know what you mean.... I have possibly discovered an alternative, but will keep it quiet till I have satisfied my own need, do not want to create a rush.
Mates rates and free are both the best price to pay.
Scene tax = Pahhh !

VW, that is really cool for what it is, my problem is that I want to hang an awning or even a camper tent from the side, and have thought the bus would be a perfect perch at motorsport events with a ply floor on top, and chairs, webber BBQ. So need a substantial rack. And tidier than a Transit, \LT35, Vito halvanised rack.

How about something a bit different to the usual retro racks (and a LOT more practical too!) It's for sale. All aluminium, very strong, very light and great load lugger too.... It belongs to my best mate (that's his ride....SWEET!) and he's got something else sorted for the roof. Always something to think about?

An awning coming straight out off a F-K would hit OB and Grizz in the side of the head. Our boys are taller than the vans are.
They'd be crouching under the awning, so I'm not getting.... Why not bring a tent in kit form and pitch it? I think I've seen OB do that in his campsite pics, could be mistaken, but think so.
Or, jack the F-K's up in the stratosphere like MM's Toy, THEN do the awning off the side for the win.
I don't think an F-K roof structure would like meaty guys like us on the fairly narrow roof structure either. OB would know better, but I'd worry a bit about bowing the structure or caving in with half a ton of NASCAR fans, kettle, chairs, rack, and stocked cooler up top a-midships! Could you even fit all that up there? Space-wise?

MM, Norm, Speedman, all points taken.
My Plan B is around something like what MM's mate has, just from another application.
Norn is right, not sure the bus will like a structure like that to be filled with a bunch of NASCAR fans. WRT the Awning, Oldbus at 6'6" is midrange for the bunch, I am 6' and the Smallest, even Nicola is 5'11" Plan with a retractable awning which I do like, would be to mount it to the top of the roofrack.
Bruce, I will chat to you later today about your mates roofrack.
