Was watching the one with the J motors on, when that Jason fella had to get three cheap coupes for the student bloke to pick from for under £1500.... The guy picked a Coupe 20v quattro Audi... for £1500... a pretty bargainous purchase at that money as it was a fine example.... The others were 2.2 Vtec Prelude, Rover 216 T-top and A Ovlov 480 as the 'mystery car' I would wager he's sold it already though, unless he is a member of OPEC, I struggled to run mine on a reasonable wage.... can't see a student suffering high-teens MPG for too long..... Eh Pillock! ;D Did make me want another though..... think I may be unhinged....

pillock only bought it if the guy snapped his key in the ignition then reversed it into a tree. and made it into a saloon i still love the 20Vs.... my mate (he of the clio-182-flogging) has just bought a calibra v6 and the smooth engine bought back very fond memories of my Audi. it was just a wonderful all-rounder - dead comfy, hugely quick, practicalish, easy to drive, reliable. shame the running costs could bankrupt a small nation. 15 fugging miles to the bl00dy gallon! if i still owned it now i'd be crying at the petrol pump. the only redeeming feature is that i made a 100% profit on it when i flogged it, even with a slippy clutch if i wasn't so routinely poor at the end of every month, i'd have another one though. rainking, you can join me in the 'unhinged' section of the nuthouse

I had a 90 quattro saloon 20v a few years back just as I started going out with a girl who stayed 20 miles away - God was I poor in that relationship It was nice car to drive until the cam wheel fell off and bent all the inlet (I think it was) valves. Audi wanted about 30 quid each for them . Did a bit of research and found they were exactly the same as Golf 16v ones. Got them for 8 quid each from EuroCarParts. Result I still had to shell out for the proper 2.3 head gasket from Audi though because nobody else made one for it.

£400?
For that much, I'd buy it and transplant the running gear into something lighter and more interesting...

yeah the 20v engine is just a 16v with an extra cylinder, pretty much the same design, except stuff costs three times as much cos it's an audi.
penski - i picked mine up for £250 and there was a cheaper, non-sport one there not long after. still 20v quattro though

At least I'm not alone in my insanity! Excellent!
Sure the £395 was a 20v quattro Coupe?
I think I'd plump for the four door though if I had one again... I've had both, and preferred the 90... think it may have been though that the 90 I had was a low mileage minter (which I sold cos it nearly bankrupt'd me) and the Coupe was a VERY high miler, with bits on the verge of breaking! (I didn't learn the first time, and sold it cos it nearly bankrupt'd me!)

I've got no idea how my mate managed to afford to run his S2 Avant - mind you he is a taxi driver so has access to a number of diesel Mercs or VWs to use - keeping the mileage down on the Audi. Can always remember the look of disbelief on the faces of some 'forward - leaning' lads in an RS Turbo as we wizzed past on the bypass near Towcester - thing is, we had just picked up a VW 20v turbo engine up for another mates caddy and was clearly visible in the back of the car ;D Thing is though, although these 20v Audis are pretty quick, I've been in plenty of cars which are quicker yet are a much more economical proposition and/or offer a greater dynamic thrill Still great 'Svelt' cars & I am a fan

I think it's only the quattro that's REALLY bad on fuel... the 2wd should get high 20's I'd have thought...
