well , I passed my direct access and felt that I needed a decent on the road bike to get my skillz up and not wait until I finished one I buuilt (that would be a wait! ). so I zero'd in on one of theses and after ringing round for three of them I landed this one off ebay. apart from riding it I have no real plans- maybe cherry it out over winter but I got spring summer and autumn to use it first ;D its certainly a great bike. 106bhp so more than enough to go stoopid with, nice and twitcy 16" front end, bonkers JDM electronic anti dive, unitrack back end with bump adjustable air shock, never less than 40mpg and best of all I can put my stumpy little legs down and touch the floor ;D on saturday I fitted it up with a fag lighter from a beemer, and whilst it was in bits I fitted the airbox properly (load throaty non responsive noises!). the power socket is to get the sat nav on for an idea of speed. and you never know where I may end up going as useful as? bit stripped down. does anyone know what these hoses are for? float chamber vents? theres only two of them. I think 11500rpm counts as a point of interest ;D my only bit of JDM yo! its a japanese import with kanji script all over it.

those pipes are probably the float chamber overflow pipes, unless they are the ones you took off the tank lol. Looks like a nice bike anyway, generally speaking the carbs go out of balance quite regular on kwaks so worth investing in a manometer, easy enough to do though, rde safe and enjoy it!

I really like that.
Yes, the pipes are probably breather pipes or tank over-flow pipes.

Excellent work. One of the bikes I always promised myself, but will probably never get around to owning. Ciggy lighter is a touch of genius. ;D

pipes don't go to the tank, the haynes shows a catch tank style affair with breather pipes from battery and tank overflow all funnelling into it. they make no nevermind to its running swinging in the breeze ;D some US variant have some mad vacuum system so I was a little puzzled about them. and there is a little cubby hole in the fairing, if you taker the cover off it would make a good ashtray too ;D ;D ;D glad I quit the ciggies years ago though! its not in bad nick- its been dropped a couple of times, just after the nexus exhaust went on the old guy I got it from had arthritis in the spine and found he could hold its weight only done 27000km too. bit different to the ER5 I took my test on

Looks a nice bike i have a 98 Yam Fazer 600 which has about 95bhp I am lead to believe, does the job none the less.
one point id like to mention about kwakers is you may find bits missing!
a local bike shop I use for MOT's and bike bits showed me a set of carbs from a ninja 600 or something of the like and the owner was having running issues as previous owner jetted up etc and mess about with it! The garage was looking into the issue and stripped the carb only to find that not all the 4 carbs had a full set of screws. They bought a second set of carbs and found that they were also missing the same screws! good old Kwaki cost cutting they put it down to so after building 3 bikes they had enough screws for the 4th bikes carbs!!!!

as it's an import bike could the mystery pipes be the remains of a carb anti-icing system? it's a pretty looking bike Bodie congrats can i ask how you're getting on with it as a first bike? i'm currently rebuilding a GPZ900r in my spare time but it'll be a while until it's roadworthy and i've been looking at 750s and 600s as an option to get some road hours

Um, what's the ciggy lighter for if you don't smoke?
Typical non-two wheeler question!

Nice one Edd.
Now be sensible and safe about it.
My bike has around 100bhp, and being a boxer, loads of torque, and I have to say, even with both Nicola and I on, it still moves.
Sermon mode : Always remember, on a bike you are smaller, faster and more invisible than most car drivers realise, so always keep eyes open for the SMIDSY types. (Sorry Mate I Did'nt See You)
Oh, and I had to giggle at you stripping a perfectly good bike down.... but I guess it is part of the learning.
Enjoy it.

Oh, and I had to giggle at you stripping a perfectly good bike down. I chuckled when I saw the picture.... But then I'm sure whenever Edd buys anything it's in bits very shortly after! ;D Next time I buy a bike I'm stripping it down before I hand over the cash - maybe I'll post up my cautionary tale at some point..... Ride safe dude!

can I ask how you're getting on with it as a first bike? i'm currently rebuilding a GPZ900r in my spare time but it'll be a while until it's roadworthy and i've been looking at 750s and 600s as an option to get some road hours really enjoying it. it just cruises most of the time but it goes like a scolded acat with a rocket up up its RS if you want it too. its a lot to learn and a far flung thing from a learner DAS bike. countersteering is more needed and its remarkably quiet! I'm soo glad I chose a kwak, the other bike I was wanting was a gpz600r with 16" rims F&R but this is only like £5 more to insure per year. cheeky Q- have you got a sot of the bars on your 900? apparently they fit onto gpx's and give more comfort, but that might be internet bull. Rian- I am careful mate. you certainly have to have eyes everywhere on a bike. best advice I got was from my mate- "just remember that everyone is out to kill you. it could be your mum or your dad but they're all out to kill you" you selling the CX jon? thats a shame, gutted mate MrT- thanks , thats just what they could be you know. funny thing is they don't hinder its running like an air leak as I was expecting. now the airbox is on properly its got no blips or hiccups in the range even pulling from low rpm in top.

best advice I got was from my mate- "just remember that everyone is out to kill you. it could be your mum or your dad but they're all out to kill you" Spot on advice - and as I learned from a youngster on an unrestricted KTM at a mini roundabout - you have to watch out for other bikes too! you selling the CX jon? thats a shame, gutted mate Yeah it's a sad time, I need something I can just get on and ride.... Stig's American Cousin has offerred another cheap CX to donate forks and engine but I just haven't got the time to sort it. Might only need a headgasket and might go on forever as it is, but "might" doesn't get me to work. Tossing up between a 600 Bandit, Honda Bros, Enfield Bullet 350, FZR600 and a 400 Superdream ATM, all within budget - I just don't know what I want! ;D

cheeky Q- have you got a sot of the bars on your 900? apparently they fit onto gpx's and give more comfort, but that might be internet bull. set of bars? do you mean flatter handlebars like Renthals? mine just has the standard clipons, look very similar to the ones on your bike.. renthals are a popular alteration for the z bikes (gpz750/900/1100 and so on) but i don't know if they'd fit around the gpx fairing? i'd guess that the higher / wider position would give you more leverage to turn the wheel, but i'd only see that as a positive when you're pushing the bike on the drive? if you're feeling too cramped / bent up with the clipons then flat bars will give you a taller / more relaxed riding position
