I was already to submit a moderately negative response to the Wheels Day/NSRA thread, had it all typed up and everything. As my finger hovered over the post reply button a heavenly miniature HotWire (complete with white robes and halo) appeared on my left shoulder harping words of wisdom about positive attitudes and content contribution. I waited for something demonic to appear on the right side but when nothing turned up I made this thread instead. We haven't had a fantasy build off for a while so post up your 'non-traditional' Hot Rod ideas. As I will probably never build a Hot Rod my recipe is well and truly on the fantasy end of the scale. Body Work Minimal tub and pick up bed in fibreglass Similar in proportions to this Chassis Alloy tube chassis joined to C6 vette front and rear ends Wheels Narrow 17 inch Torque Thrust Ds running motorcycle semi-slicks Running gear Hot Rods and V8s are like peas and carrots so; Radical SR8 - 2.8 455hp

My Hot Rod that I'll never build would be...
'32 Sedan body - Tudor or Fordor
Dark Brown paint and orange wheels which would be painted lowrider style wires in large diameters (eg. 17 x 7 front, 19 x 10 rear) with lowish profile tyres. Stance would be flat (no/minimal rake) with the running board millimetres off the floor front to back. Engine would be something straight six and modern - BMW, Lexus or Toyota possibly.

OOOH i like that who doesnt love brown ;D but i would go as far to say that what your sudjesting is possibly a streetrod rather than a hotrod

No, it's a hot rod. ;D Steel wire wheels, six cylinder engine, standard body...no billet, no bright paint, no shaved handles or flush glass. In fact, with the bonnet shut (which it would be) and some more traditional wheels it'd look like pretty much like this: or this: (with fenders!) A classic (almost resto) look, but with a double-take wheel and stance combo.

While doing a bit of searching, my interest piqued by this thread, I found this site which many of you probably already know. www.oldstox.com/Loads of good pics, though not very well organised, but EXTREMELY worthwhile trawling through. This period pic caught my eye as being so "right". The Herald owner in me can't help liking this roof though

his is pretty much mine, probably a fantasy but I WILL build a rod and if I can work out how to do something like this on the cheap then I will, not an impossible plan as I used to work in a boat yard laying up yaught and canoe hulls so I can work 'glass. I like the faired in wheels look as well though. to hard to choose!

Wish i could see these properly, but my computer screen has given up, so everything has a ghostly blue tint to it (works quite well on the 'street rodder' and 'J.E.T' cars though ;D).

Probably something like a Dooster 33, running on Cosworth Ultimate scorpio 4x4 running gear on pure LPG, no petrol. Coupe not roadster but with trackstyle/formula car styling.

My dream rod has always been a 5W Model A coupe with the back chopped off to create a pickup cab. Mega Z'd frame but stock roof so its about nipple height, really short bed, and a blown 4.5 litre daimler hemi.
Also a 23 Ford T with a bike engine where the passenger would sit, rear axle narrowed on one side only Legend style, double wishbone front suspension with inboard coilovers hidden inside a track nose and dirt track style paint.
Oh and my 100E obviously.

Model Y Ford in Black, running a triumph stag V8 and the tallest skiniest red steel wheels I could get. ;D Have you ever sat in a Model Y? Makes a Pop feel spacious! With a Stag V8 in there youd be sat where the back seat (which makes for a very weird driving position). Liking Johnny's rotary idea in the Datsun - always fancied doing an Austin Seven like this, bit like a 5/8 size Model A Ford ... Would have to be very gloss black with skinny steels all round. Rotary power makes a lot of sense in a small car like that, what sort of gas mileage do they get? ;D Edit - just found this....... now off to eBay..... dammit HotWire, this is going to cost me money! Need more pics of this..........

The wheels on that 34 look daft imo. I like big inch wheels, but the diameter difference is too big the fronts look like 13s.
