I've done it! (well, nearly - scrapingscrap bought it from me and finished it) The adapter was made by a company called flowtech racing - but I think they sold them all and have no intention of producing any more. If you can get an adapter plate made up then the main tasks are just the usual plumbing/wiring and mounting issues. Mine (and others - the Street Machine project Skoda for instance) used the standard, brakes and gearbox - all of which were deemed up to the task. These days, I'd think if you were going to the trouble of getting a 'plate machined then you may consider opting for a different engine as the Fiat lumps are becoming less common these days. It's a small picture, but here's mine waiting to go in - you can see the engine mount bar going under the sump - and the exhaust which is a tubalar jobbie intended for a 131 sport, but with a u-bend welded to bring it back towards the back of the car.

I agree with rmad - in the '80s the Fiat Twink would be a natural choice as it was readily available. These days there are other (and, dare I say it, better) engines out there. How about a 4AGE powered Skoda? Or the ubiquitous K-Series? Zetec? Alfa Romeo boxer lump?
Get a rocker cover machined with the Skoda logo and I doubt anyone would be any wiser - who in the general motor trade would know what a Rapid lump looks like?! ;D

Which skud do you need the engine for? And why do you need it so fast? If you need it in a hurry why not just get a felatio/favorit/estelle engine to go in.
If you want to modify it I would go for something like a nova sr engine. You can pick those up for very little thanks to all the 16V conversions. 20 bhp more than a rapid and fairly easy to get them up to 100bhp which would make for a pretty rapid rapid. Round about as light as a skoda engine so shouldnt be detrimental to handling and I have heard that they are easy to fit although I have never tried myself so couldnt say for certain but I bloke I now used to use one for trials and hillclimbs.

don't go for any of the modern "twinners" they are mainly all iron block fat bastards. unless you get a K series or a duratec. sohc and 2v per cylinder seems to be a lot lighter. if you want a more tuneable and a light engine a bmw m10 is a pretty cool choice? not really a twincam though so i shouldnt suggest. sorry. i suck

I'd go with the Vauxhall Family 1.
Small block, rather light, 1.4 or 1.8 8v would be The Daddy.

If its just a case of moving the car why not tow or trailer it. I take it will still have brakes or do the engine mounts help support the gearbox.

well at the moment, the engine and gearbox from the red car is going into the green car (check sig for ref.)...the green car is then replacing the red car (we've only got room for one car) and the red car is going to cambridge...so really, both cars need engines...
was thinking of twin cam'ing the green car...
