I would say that at 30 quid he is getting a bargain there.

is it safe to have an alu bbq? Does the metal give off any fumes or somesort at heat? I have no idea btw. Just a guess.

Tallsam, a lot of pots, pans and BBQ hotplates used to be made of aluminium, and many still are. Aluminium cookware has been vaguely linked to cancer in some rather inconclusive studies but apart from that there's nothing wrong with it. If the actual surface you put the food on is coated with anything then it doesn't really matter what it's made of, and I'm fairly sure that teflon is more of a carcinogen than aluminium, but none of them are bad enough to care about. 99.9% more likely you'll die of something else first so I wouldn't worry!

ah, good point. I remember we had an alu saucepan. I ate out of that many times (sometimes literally when I couldn't be bothered to dish onto a plate).

Did you have to make any modifications to it apart from cutting it in half?

I'd guess it didn't have a hinge on it and the mesh wasn't there originally.

I didnt put any holes in as i thought I would see how it went and could add holes easier than weld them up It burned fine so I reckon it will stay as is

Thats good to know. I may have to steal your idea if you don't mind, its amazing. Got a fire pit out of an old gearbox casing, now a bbq out of a keg The gearbox would have been a BBQ but tasted like like oil all the time ha ha.
