Hi All, Not been on here for a few days, been busy in the garage. Started on Bank Holiday monday dismantling my trusty 142k mile 1.8 16v engine with a view to fitting an Audi 6a 2 litre engine and replacement lower mileage gearbox... 'New' engine ready to go in, and crane... Trying to keep A/C compressor safe from harm was tricky... 'Simply insert engine here'... 'New' engine and 'box nicely cleaned up, painted and with new clutch, waterpump and other bits installed... This was bound to happen, I am such a child... In it goes... Finished article, just needs fine tuning now... What do you all think?

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Yes, it was a relatively straightforward conversion, the Audi engine uses the same mounts, belts, pulleys, fuel injection etc. The PAS and Aircon were a bit tricky to sort out but just fiddly and time consuming really rather than difficult. Stats on new engine? It's around about 160bhp I would think as it has the KR cams fitted which make it rev more like the old 1.8, something like 150lbsft toque. Will probably get it rolling roaded once I've set it up properly and find out. The main reason I swapped over is 'cos the 'new' engine has only 80k miles on it, so just run in! Also wanted to change my gearbox as the old one had a crunchy 2nd gear when cold.

top work, what a sweet conversion thats going to be quick. Vorsprung durch teknic (sp) rules ok. Yep - it's quite a bit quicker than with the 1.8 and I've not set it up properly yet so more to come all being well! ;D Makes a deep rumbly noise now too, the old engine wasn't exactly quiet but this one has a 6-cylinder esque warble to it, not sure why 'cos I used the same exhaust etc that I had originally?

congrats that man . looks like a sweet swap. what sort of money do those audi engines go for then? The Audi engine was £250 to buy secondhand but prices vary, always under £500 though - you could usually buy a full Audi 80 for that and get other bits off it too!
