Rear subframe bushes? They're a MOT fail as far as I know, and if they're anything like e34 subframe bushes, a bit of a pig to replace. Might be easier on the e30 though. I'd offer a one-er and aim to get it for one fifty. Looks really nice, and like you say, seems honest enough. Go for it!

There is a special tool for it, but then I would have to pay main dealer prices.... and there is the end of the bargain car.

Yeah a lot of garages don't like doing the job, and may even refer you to a BMW specialist. My dad had them done on his (now my) e34. Cost him £240 I think...

Problem is that is probably still worth it witha car as nice as this one. We do not give £300 a thought when it is a holiday or alloys on Evilbay. Hate myself at times for this indecisiveness , and watching out for being bitten in the backside by toys.

I think you're right there - it'd still be a really good price for that car, and you might be able to better that price on having the subframe bushes done... or even tackling the job yourself (although I don't think I'd be all that enthusiastic about doing it without a ramp or something)

Hate myself at times for this indecisiveness , and watching out for being bitten in the backside by toys. Just finishing off changing the rear beam bushes in my E30. Big hammer to chisel the old ones out (you can burn the rubber off but I didn't fancy that!). There is a special BMW tool to press the new bushes in, I just used some M12 threaded bar and scrap steel. Tho I was doing this with the beam off the car. Cost me under £60 and thats using proper BMW bushes. Don't know if that will sway you one way or t'other! You can apparantly do the bushes with the beam on the car but I wouldn't want to, it's not too tricky to drop the rear end and do it on the bench. Of course whilst i was doing that I also did trailing arm bushes, wheel bearings, brake lines etc etc

Do what Beejay said, and definitely lay the rear subframe on the floor to do so! I'm be quite happy burning them out personally! Fairy liquid is a good lubricant too.
I can't believe skyway suggested sticking chrome bumpers on a facelift though. Why on earth would you do that? They go on prefacelifts with the rest of the chrome trim!
My vote is get it for £200 tops, banded steels, 60mm drop and stretch the tyres a little. I'd rather keep with my 80mm drop, but most people don't like killing sumps (the lowest part on these E30's, although the M40 will be higher than my M42) or building sump guards!
I picked up jamex shocks and springs up from E30zone 2nd hand for about £70.

^^^ So had a productive weekend then have we mate ;D Grizz I say get it bought, get it fixed and then drop it on the floor! I bet with a little thought and effort could have this fixed (if you do bushes obviously) and lowered on some nice rims for under £500, and that's a bargain by anyone's standards

I used some threaded bar, nuts and a few spanners to coax the new bushes in to the 2002 rear subframe - its a bit of a pig of a job but perfectly do-able (you might also need some well placed swears ). I'm assuming the E30 is a similar kind of job from Beejay said previously. I'd buy it but personally I have a soft spot the size of Vanessa Feltz many soft-spots for a nice E30...

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

You guys here have compleetly screwd my head up by cheering me on to go buy the car, rather than make excuses as to why not to have it.

^^^ That looks pretty tidy and a good price for an unmolested IS (interesting to see what it goes for)....not often you see one as solid as that - just look at the drivers seat bolster! I think Rian might now have something else in the pipeline though? A million miles from an E30, but also a million times more fun and certainly different. I'm sure he'll post something up if it comes close to a deal.
