I hope you have found your trademark eyebrows safe and sound !!!!!!!!!! They were blown clean off and I had to peel them off the wall. Luckily, being as bushy as they are, they were not damaged in the slightest

Cool, ramjets? Have you got compressed air going in there somewhere? Are you on the pulse-jets.com forum?

Hey mate...
Firstly about yours, do you just chuck some methanol into the bottle, give it a shake then put a match to it?
As for mine, it is a thermo jet/motorjet whatevery you want to call it.
It used an electric ducted fan from an RC aeroplane to provide the air into the combustion chamber, then burns liquid butane just behind a flame holder.
It will consume about 200 ml of liquid butane a minute!
Still needs lots of work though.
Yeah i just joined that forum. Need advice about running it on liquid fule, i.e. petrol etc. I tried but couldn't get the fuel to atomise properly.

Ah right, I see. Petrol is quite hard to use as a liquid fuel because the mixture is so critical. A lot of people just opt for propane or alcohol. I've only every used propane in my pulsejets and they run fine on it. Bottle rocket is about 200ml of methanol in the bottle atomise the hell out of it with an air blaster on the compressor and light the back with a zippo. You could do the shaking thing but as usual it's quicker with power tools Good little forum but they can get a bitchy at times. I haven't posted much in the last couple of years and one of the really cool older guys who was very helpful left as well, unfortunately.

I wanted to use something liquid, cheep and easily avaiable. My main issue with using butane/propane is the pure quantity of it needed in liquid form. I use the refil cans (usually 500 ml) and it will consume that a 2 minutes max usually. It gets costly quick!
I have not even got to mixture issues yet, mainly due to finding it hard to atomise the fuel. I have tried to make a spray injector, but i just keep finding it dumps fuel into the combustion chamber starts spitting it out in great flaming droplets. It sprays the fuel ok, but it doesn't stay suspended long enough to catch and run well.
I might try preheating the fuel in the combustion chamber so it boils and turns to a gas, hopefully then burning better.
I will have to give the methonal rocket a go, looked good!

Yeah you'll need to make up some kind of carburetting device to atomise the liquid fuel. It's quite difficult, but since you've got a motor drawing air through maybe you could use an old carburettor Heating/boiling the fuel is an old trick and worth trying. Gluhareff did that in his pressure jet by running the fuel through coils round the inside of the combustion chamber so that it absorbed the heat of combustion. If you can get it to boil then you can get it to pressure into the intake and add to thrust. There's a patent flying about showing an inline pressure jet (rather than the old L shape) using that principle, but I don't know if anyone has made one that actually works.
