Hopefully I'll win one on the bay this afternoon. If it's good, behind the front bumper. If it's bad, on the front bumper That said, are they relatively easy to plumb in? *n

ive looked into this on my shuv and i don't think you can fit one to 1256, the only way i can see is a spin on filter conversion with a sandwitch plate.....but does anyone make a spin on conversion that fits?....Probably but i have'nt found them yet! let me know if you turn anything up!

well I'm assuming your shuvit uses the same filter as a nova/astra/cav etc if it does get the oil cooler plate pipes ect off a cav gsi/astra gte remove the normal screwdown thread with a screw extractor and use the one supplied - cheap instant oil cooler

When I was fitting the 4A-GE engine in my Toyota, I wanted it as low as possible, but the oil filter was in the way of the engine mount. Think Automotive were able to do me a Mocal take-off plate, remote filter housing and all the fittings and pipework I needed to install an oil cooler at the same time.

I'm pretty sure that someone makes a sandwich plate that's available in various diameters and threads, failing that, try a remote filter kit for an engine with the same thread as yours, and plumb it in that way. The thread should be marked near the seal, try checking a filter in Halfords if you're not taking yours off anyway. (See, Halfords do have their uses!) If it's any help, the Pinto, Fiat Twin-cam, Renault 5 and Reliant Robin(!) all use a 3/4" UNF thread. For a sandwich plate, try Mocal, Merlin Motorsport or Europa.

Well I won it - £16.51.
I'll have a good hard look at the options once it turns up.

Go to Think Automotive. They are the boys for oil cooler. They will sell you a sandwich plate to fit your engine along with any pipes etc you might need. Adapter for the ZS was £16 plus postage.

Sandwich plate is the way to go. But make sure you get an oil stat as well otherewise you will overcool your oil which is not a good thing with most oils.
