Can anyone shed any light on these things? I really like the look of Supertrapp back boxes, but I'm having trouble getting my head round them. Surely the create a lot of back-pressure which could mess things up? I know back pressure isn't necessarily a bad thing but when I see these things strapped to a small-block packing muscle car, they look really restrictive (but oh so cool!)

My mate's got one on his Corrado - it sounds rubbish Also its a G60 - I always thought that the least restriction the better with a forced induction car. I reckon Supertrapps are only any good if you are experimenting getting the back pressure right for a given engine's state of tune and/or there is restricted length of car to fit a full exhaust system ... oh & style/looks reasons Edit; BTW the back pressure is essentially adjustable by fitting on different spacer plates into the end peice, hence altering the size of the holes which let out the exhaust gases.

I think they work by reflecting sound pressure waves back up the exhaust pipe rather than by allowing the exhaust gas to expand, like a conventional silencer box. I cannot get my head around one aspect of them, though - the more plates you fit into them, the quieter they get and the less restrictive...? You what??? Maybe it has to do with increasing the area of the annular passage through which the exhaust gas can escape. I'm

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Am i right in thinking you can get these are simply an addition to your exhaust?
Or are they a full, standalone muffler? I like the look of them, and the maintaining the power whilst lowering the noise thing works for me - i like the idea of a nice quiet exhaust.
Anyone know where to get a muffler one from?

they are available from Demon Tweeks
They are just mufflers, basicly, run a straight through to the ST muffler, and "tune" with discs to suit.
They are good for noise reduction, but that is always a trade off of power.

IIRC David Vizard slates them in his book 'Tuning BL's A-series engines' for just this reason.
LOL ;D
