Well, I was over in Basingstoke this week for a 2 day work meeting, finished at 5.45 Tuesday evening, borrowed a car and raced over to Dummer to see "Oldone" Era at his "shed" where he builds turbo, racing and other types of Rotary engines. He has been involved in motor racing for a long time, and the stuff he knows about gas, turbos and rotaries is incredible. Anyway, when I got there he was busy porting an engine, so his one son made me a cuppa, I played with the cat, and took a couple of pics. The one was of a tool that really made me giggle as it is so simple , yet so effective for when he gets into the deeper recesses of the engines with his porting tools. Do you have "home made tools " , The sort used to keep your retro on the road...? Show us.

LOL..... OK, should have explained it better...
He is into the deep recesses of the channels porting away with his grinding tools, but when you are building 500BHP motors, things get trickier.... unlike a 50cc 2stroker.
Also, looking at his username... "oldone" it becomes apparent that his eyes are less than perfect. (Looking for trouble here) anyway, he basically fits the concocted magnifying glass super eye to his noggin, and then can really see deep inside and also get subtle angles more correctly done.
Hope that makes sense, it just made me grin madly, the contraption he had built to help him get it more right when porting engines.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

not a tool as such, but I was quite pleased with the fact it worked: needed to remove the pistons as i suspected a leak, so held the one nearest the 'line' in place with a clamp, pumped the pump, the other popped out, then removed the 'line' and pushed the remaining one out with a screwdriver pure fluke that the thread on my footpump is the same as an MG brake line

I have a six foot breaker bar that I made for Mini hub nuts. It started life as the bar from a set of dumbells and is really heavy thick wall steel. I welded up the joint on an old 1/2" breaker bar (at a slight angle to give clearance in use) then built up the handle with weld so it was a really tight fit in the bar. I hammered in into the end and welded it up. Hey presto, one breaker bar that you can crack Mini hub nuts with using two fingers and not a single swear word.

Done similar using a scaffold pole to remove a siezed bottom bracked from a mountain bike :-) surprised it didnt tear the frame apart :-)

akin to above i have two lengths of 11' hollow tube that sits nicely over a ratchet handle. you don't even notice the torque then!
and i made a bmw windscreen glue cutter tool like the autoglass man had by grinding and twisting an old screwdriver into the shape and giving it a cutting edge. not good enough to warrant a pic though!

I think it was Peter Cushing that was the book shop owner in Top Secret. Sooperb film
I have a selection of different diameter scaffold poles and bike frame tubes to put over spanners and ratchet handles to give more leverage

Another use for scaffold bar, my home brew spit, no more crawling around on the floor with globules of molten steel dripping into my crotch!
