ok so for some crazy reason the dizzy on my marina (1.3) has no vacuum advance - how can this be !?? considering replacing it - anyone know if an electrobic unit from a later 1275 metro would fit (and work) !??

Hmm, the original Mini Cooper S had no vacuum on it either, I can only imagine that you've got a copper dizzy fitted. It doesn't mean you can't fit a dizzy with vacuum, as long as there's a pipe for it on the carb

Yep, probably of a cooper, although Lucas did a 'competition' / no vacum advance dizzy for all A Series engines (as well as 'B' Series). Part number was 030.050, it might be stamped on dizzy somewhere.
...or it could be the famous 'Aldon' Dizzy (basically the same, but Aldon Automotive were first to market them to the public ...I think). If so it will have a red Aldon badge on it and may have part number 100AY.

Just to throw a 'spanner-in-the-works', it might not be any of the above!
The Dizzy on my 1380 didn't have an advance, and was supplied by Swiftune (who supplied the engine) - there were no markings on it what so ever.
Have a look through any old documentation you might have - there might be a reference to it........

It could be any dizzy. Its a common mod to remove the vacume advance unit and braze it soild. Has it still got the hole in the side for it?
My escort runs a lucas dizzy same as a mini (45d i think) with no vacume advance, brought it off ebay new.

Do you have problems with the dizzy the way it is. Vaccum advance only real helps to keep the idle and part throttle smooth. Once you are on the move it doesnt really make a lot of difference.

hi guys - thanks for the tips ill inspect it later... also went to lucas (we have a place local) and the 'old boy' there thinks that it may be original as it is too. Just relying one the bob weights for tune. He also thinks that a electronic dizzy from a 1275 metro would be good too tho i may need a balast resisted coil if it hasnt already got one. ;D anyway - it still wont start !! coil gets hot - no spark at plugs... lost my feelers gonna get a new set today - i cant see a gap personally, running fine a week ago tho ?

might just be that the points have closed up or the contacts have had it, pretty average stuff for those

If it is the points that are causing this, please please please replace the condenser at the same time.........
