If your one of the members on here that doesnt post, doesnt have a retro ride and are just keeping an eye on the scene I will have to say now is the time to be buying one. I have just picked up an early Citroen ax, with 9 months Mot, and 6 months tax for £87 on e-bay. Its in good condition too. No one wanted it. In all my history of driving I don't think i can remember a time when it is such a buyers market. So marale of the story, if you can afford it get buying and posts some pics on here

Yep, agreed also - It's a good job I have little money or I would be needing a sizeable barn to house my collection, given the cars that have come up in the last few weeks particularly.

Thats a shocker being a nimble economic ready to go hatch, only falls down on safey I expect, but wow, bargain, worth it for tax if nowt else! Inflated prices will need to fall, or just will. just like houses, there isn't really a shortage, loads of em kicking about. Gonna be interesting the coming future... it will also mean that enthusiasts may lose heart (or swap their modern for an oldie), and some cars may get scrapped when MOT is out or no one buys. course scene taxed vehicles may get easier to own. Then I can't afford the juice for a '69 Charger anyway! ;D

On the flip side i just sold a pov-spec capri with no engine, a welded diff and a slightly mouldy interior for £250...
Still, it's kind of heartbreaking that i keep seeing the odd 5.0 fox body mustang going for daftly cheap money, sitting unsold when i'm too skint to afford one..
If you've got the dosh, go for it!

Hi, I'm one of those lurking everyday, never posting members. Gotta say I love this site. I've got something fun, but not "retro", a 2000 JDM Toyota MR-S (MR2), which is currently off the road awaiting a gearbox rebuild. (Currently getting around in a friends 1996 Carina E, does that count as retro or just old? haha) I'd love to buy something retro cool with back seats to cruise around in, sadly I'm living in the republic of Ireland which has an insanely expensive road tax system even compared to the UK and incredibly blinkered insurers who don't do multi-car policies or let you use your no-claims on a second car, which makes owning a second car, even a cheap shed, prohibitively expensive. ..but I'm not here to moan, we still have rolling exemption on classics here, provided its over thirty years old and can get cheap classic insurance on most stuff over 20 years old. As soon as I get my gearbox sorted, I'm gonna try and get some cash together for 30 year old (or small engined 20 year old) classic and join the retro fun.

I'm a past retro owner, current future retro owner (IS200), in before the scene tax I've been looking but I can't decide what I want and what I want to do with it, and where I'm going to store it.

Yeah, it's a good time to be buying a 20 year old car.
Perfect condition Starion? 300 quid. MR2 with tax and MOT? 250 quid. (I could have two more tommorow for 250 quid again).
I bought a mk1 Escort Mexico with bubble arches and rollcage 15 years ago for 150 quid. People aren't forward thinking enough, some of these 100 quid cars are going to go for 10 - 50 times that in ten years.

Ive just sold my Golf for £100. It had an Mot till december and drove lovely. This time last year I would of got £350-£400 for it. I went to the scrap yard yesterday and he was scrapping a 2001 Rover 45. Mint condition, low mileage, Just headgasket blown. Far beyond my mechanical knowledge otherwise I would of bought it. I'm seriously thinking about hiring another garage and getting another retro just to store in it till the time comes that I need another car.

Wish I had more reason and space to justify a few retro cars, just to own them... look at them and touch them untill the time comes to work and have them back on the road.

I sold my Z1 in the 'recession' for 2K more than I paid for it 10 years ago (when prices were supposed to be high!) and had 10 yrs of good motoring out of it.
I bought a very tidy Bedford Rascal for £50 last year when they were selling for £800+, so it shows that the bargains were always there and the right cars will always fetch good money even when times are hard.
Having said that, it's SOOO tempting to add 'just another one' to the collection when you see what is currently selling for crazy low money. When I sold the Z1 I figured I would buy a cheaper, fun car to replace it. That replacement car has transpired into TWO MR2's and a Camry!! Go figure??
6 cars is enough for me and I have to keep telling myself not to be tempted by some of the lovely retro J-tin that seems to be appearing for pocket money....but having a large unit with lots of space makes that temptation all the more difficult to resist.
I must behave, I must behave!!

Welcome crankcase those new MR2's are fun just like the oldies Thanks for the welcome The new MR2s are indeed great fun. The original MK1 was my childhood dream car and having had the wonderful opportunity to compare both the new and original MR2 (a JDM Super Charger version no less) and its clear the mk3 is one the of the few relatively modern cars that captures much of what made the retro version great while improving on it further. If only they had a super charger. ;D But the trick is knowing which 100 quid tat cars will be 5 grands worth of win in 10 years time. I kinda wish I'd bought Corolla AE86 10 years ago, though prices have dropped here compared to the madness of 3 years ago when they were selling for €10,000 in some cases! Bedford Rascal TWO MR2's and a Camry!! Go figure?? You have no idea how envious I am of that collection. Thats like my dream garage, right there.
