Had to pop into my not so local Vauxhall/Chevy dealership today. While waiting for the salesman to get on with a client, I walked about in the yard , and saw faded red roof in row 4, in the rear corner.... investigating led me to a Y-Reg Astra.... with a label in the window "SCRAPPED" A few minutes earlier I had seen a spotless X-Reg Ford Mondeo (Special edition) with 33500miles on the clock and SCRAPPED written in red on the windscreen, at this point the sales manager had asked me if he could help.... I asked him about the two cars.... and he replied that they were pretty much being destroyed to make the planet a better place. COCKS I thought. I know it has been on here before, but it still saddens me, even if no one pretends to want one, it is a pretty decent car for what it is, and 35k miles is like new, the car was in great condition, new tyres etc. May not yet be Retro enough for here.... Googled "Retro Heartbreak cars"

It's the scrappage deal, they give about 2.5K against a brand new car, the motor industry is trying to get it on across the board. Explain to me how making new cars is good for the environment? Something like 80% of the pollution a car is responsible for is actually in the manufacture, not in the running.

That sucks I hope you set that stuck up numpty straight on a few pointers I did try.... But I guess they have kids to feed, and pensions to plan too Interestingly, The lease company I get my company car through, I was supposed to collect a new Chev Captiva this week, could not raise finance for not just my car, but any cars, so all orders, deliveries and the likes have been stopped.... so my car that was a base model, but up specced to my liking with larger wheels, SatNav etc, is in their compound, awaiting delivery, which has now been delayed indefinitely. Guess it is a sign of the times. Still just is Madness as FredTransit said above.

, the motor industry is trying to get it on across the board. thats why its happening ..... the motor industry are trying to protect themselves using the whole eco curse word as a front..... as people have had it drummed into them so far that old cars polute so you should by a new eco friendly one.... Fancy sloguns and advertising makes em think its the right thing to do. plus obviously the 2.5k helps obviously

Environazism is not a rational religion, Fred. Hallo Norm, how you doing ? Colmans Mustard OK ?? Good, me brutha! Did OB tell you I found a couple cast alloy Sinclair dino heads? One is just the head. The other is head plus neck. If you think they might be "just the thing", I can dig up the seller's info. ;D (Norm, providing stupid temptations to odd fetishers for 30 years, lol)

Sad thing to me is that they see fit to scrap perfectly servicable cars, and will not sell as a working car for the cost of scrap, or even a profit. Sad indeed. , the motor industry is trying to get it on across the board. thats why its happening ..... the motor industry are trying to protect themselves using the whole eco curse word as a front..... as people have had it drummed into them so far that old cars polute so you should by a new eco friendly one.... Thats because this isnt based around the environment - its a ruse to sell more new cars. My background is Environmental Science, and my job is in this sector, so it usually gets my backup when anything environmental is given a hammering - but I don't believe forcing old cars off the road is the answer at all. The vast majority of cars are what we would class as modern anyway - bloody hell my 406 would fall under the scrapping laws and thats bloody new to me!
