All right, thanks. I was wondering where you could connect that on the renix, as I can see that on yours it's the same thing. On the picture above, the right plug is empty, the middle one the crank position sensor, and the left one probably has power and the RPM. But ofcourse, if you can connect more data sources there, then it makes sense. I'm used to plug and play, and following your thread I should have known that there might be a little more to it than just plugging it in

Welp, here we go again. I was planning on painting the car but it's changed color by itself. Green. And not a very nice shade either, but meh. Bonus, got a replacement window mechanism, the two dome lights for the interior, the bits of trim that were missing from the outside and the little pipe clip bimetallic strip jobber that opens the hot/cold air flap in the airbox. Didn't fit any of it yet. Instead, went to the gas station, bought 5 gallons of fresh 87 and headed on down with my new toy. The wire for it arrived yesterday afternoon after being delivered to the neighbors by UPS (second time UPS have missed the nice big, shiny black mailbox RIGHT OUTSIDE MY HOUSE. Needless to say, the car has had the window open a crack for five months. The insides were full of spiders. I hate spiders. The insides now smell of Raid. Put the fuel in, hooked the jump leads up to the truck. Twisted the key. Got a halfhearted CRRRRrrrnnnn-rrRRRRrrnnn-RRrnn-rnn-rnn-rnn-KAK-KAK-VRUM! Better than last time. Fresh fuel helps wonders. The tank was empty. Plugged the snap-on tool into the car. It blinked its lights at me, told me it was a 2.5 litre Jeep and proceeded to spit out the engine's vitals: 20130817_093020 by renault9gta, on Flickr A few things are mildly bizarre, like the coolant readout and intake temperature going backwards (started at 0 and steadily got more negative) and the W.O.T. switch saying what all the time (mine doesn't have a W.O.T. switch, only the throttle pot). 20130817_092852 by renault9gta, on Flickr Makes sense. At least this shows that my code on the Arduino was about right and will work with a Jeep Took the car for a spin down the street. All the gears work (though it doesn't like fifth at 25) everything still works, the brakes have improved slightly for having sat up, but there's still over half the pedal travel before they begin to bite. I can hear the rear brakes biting in first (rusty, they make noise) and the fronts were fairly quiet. I think I'm going to change the master cylinder. This "rebuilt" one has been questionable from the get-go. I'm seriously considering making some moulds from the rear bodykit sections though. They are fragile-fragile! The plastic is degrading with age. The two I received are kinda broken and split. Thinking about fiberglass, or getting the local boat place to make some fiberglass copies. Beyond that, a good old cosmetic tidy-up in order, the last few remaining mechanical issues and we'll be good to go. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have some of the standing orders paid off and I'll have some spare cash again. --Phil

Had to go back down to the car because I forgot to close the bonnet after I left. As a bit of a mojo boost I gave the new* overhead lights a clean up, took them down and fitted them. They even work when I open the doors now. My god man, you're driving it! This car is an epic all it's own, and you're likely the only man in America with the perseverance to get it back on the road. Solid work!

Yup, it's been "driving" for a couple of years.
I have received some insight on the brakes bring poop. There is a good possibility I was sold the wrong master cylinder. The one for the 1.7 physically fits and is operated by the GTA brake servo but due to the different front pots (vented, different dia, different calipers, brake bias valve, different MC travel) the 1.7 version on the GTA causes the symptoms of the brakes that I have.
Research coming up, possible new master cylinder. Hopefully then, properly working brakes again. That would be nice.

The grandiose names they gave to some of those rank and awful cars makes me laugh. When I first moved the the US from England, I actively looked for an Oldsmobile Firenza, hoping they're be something like the Vauxhall version ... not in the slightest! Similar to the Pontiac Lemans (couldn't even pronounce Le Mans correctly), which I thought would be an Astra, but it's a rebadged Daewoo or some such garbage.
Names like GTO, Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, etc. evoke quite a lot of feeling, but the US car industry is also littered with wibblepoo.

Happy to see you back on this, it's pretty unique around here ... -Steve Not sure that's wholly a good thing, to be honest. Sold a small electric motorcycle to my uncle for his kids, so have a little bit of cash. Shall be putting it towards a new master cylinder of the correct type. Careful checking of the numbers indicates the incorrect one was sent to me. Boooo! Also a new halfshaft because the driver's side one's tripod is a little noisy. --Phil **Edit** Apparently the secondary pistons in these M/C's are known for sticking. I'm going to give the thing a wallop and see if it frees off, if not, it's probably just a bad rebuild, in which case, new one time...

Well, you know what they say about best laid plans and all that. I set out Saturday morning down to where the car's stored. Mother in law has had a fracas with my elder brother in law (possibly referred to here previously as Captain Useless) and finally kicked him out the house. So, instead of getting on with working on the car, I spent the morning mowing the yard (1.2 acres) and the rest of the afternoon tidying Capt. U's curse word up from under the carport. His junk is now under a tarp behind my car, all my tools that he'd wheeled out into the rain so his junk could be under cover has been rescued, the wasps nests removed and obligatory curse words thrown in his general direction. 20130824_173125 by renault9gta, on Flickr Back to having a tidy space to work in, mother in law has somewhere to park her car now and all the important, expensive stuff like generators and my toolbox is protected. Work done on car? None. Oh, and it was on off rain the entire day too, as that miserable photo shows. Yesterday was also a no-go due to aforementioned mother-in-law making plans for the wife and I without our knowledge. Maybe after work today I can finally get my new window regulator fitted. Here's hoping. --Phil

Well, this is where we got to yesterday. Got the car running on the jump-leads and drove it out. Let it idle in a vain attempt to charge the battery some. (This didn't happen, but it did run up to temp, the fan cut in and it was doing good). Not the prettiest colour it's turned right there. Oh well. Onward and upward. Get the door open and attend to the winder mechanism. 20130826_171841 by renault9gta, on Flickr Gave the glass a shove to the bottom of the rails. Undid the bolts holding the glass in. 20130826_171955 by renault9gta, on Flickr With the glass safely resting in the bottom of the door, I unbolted the three bolts holding the window regulator slide in place. 20130826_172117 by renault9gta, on Flickr Old one that broke at the top, newer one that hasn't broken yet (well, it began to split a little, hence the blue tube to strengthen it) at the bottom. Notice the difference.. 20130826_172408 by renault9gta, on Flickr This wonderful photograph highlights where the window regulator has to go. Spent five minutes fighting it, trying to finagle the thing into place without breaking anything off. 20130826_172605 by renault9gta, on Flickr Stuck the handle on and wound the mechanism down to the bottom. 20130826_172807 by renault9gta, on Flickr Lifted the glass up and got the it bolted to the carrier. 20130826_172953 by renault9gta, on Flickr Finally! Glass that goes up and down again! Unfortunately it does have a tendency to get jammed at the top of its travel going up. I need to investigate this but at least now the glass won't fall down randomly and let the rain and spiders in. 20130826_173204 by renault9gta, on Flickr As a congratulation, I decided to give the car a wash. Got the hosepipe out and unwound it. Was greeted by RZZZZZZZZZ, so a quick flailing of arms and spraying of Raid later, we have: 20130826_182538 by renault9gta, on Flickr I hate wasps. With the stinging nasties out of the way, the car was treated to a wash for the first time in a couple years. 20130826_180755 by renault9gta, on Flickr 20130826_180727 by renault9gta, on Flickr Looking better. Incidentally, did try give the master cylinder a few wallops with a 4 lb hammer. No improvement of the brakes, but I didn't want to be hitting it too hard because a) access was difficult and I was coming mighty close to the plastic reservoir and b) don't want to damage the servo/booster. That's something for another day. I think I'm going to get all the interior back in place to bring the mojo back up on this project, then deal with the brakes. --Phil

Right now it's Fifty Shades Of Grey but without the fawning women. Every wash and movement from the carport is a step in the right direction!!! It's one step forward, one step back- out of the carport and back in again. At least when it was parked out in the open (thanks to Capt. Useless) it got snapped on Google maps images --Phil
