Not feeling too great today, which was a shame because the bad weather passed, the warm air went away. Yesterday morning the air was clingy-damp and horrible,90%rH and 87°F/30°C to this morning with clear skies, 40%rH and 67°F/20°C. Unfortunately this clear air came at a price as 230 people lost their lives due to the bad weather up North of here, nearly a record-breaking 165+ tornadoes in one day. A couple of fairly poor pictures of dull things that need doing though. The wonderful state of the underside of my dash- Glued the plastic back together and stuck the screw fixing in place. Hopefully it'll hold the dash in. The dash fascia broke too, so I superglued that as well. Camera decided it liked the box of zipties better than the subject and focused on it instead: Looks like I have to accompany SWMBO to her night-job tomorrow to assist with the month's filing. No car until the weekend --Phil

Gathered together a bit of enthusiasm and went out again to attack my dashboard. Got it all fitted back in, the clock works, air comes out of the bits that's supposed to and the dash works properly. Only problem now is the dratted thing has become hard to start so I had a poke about, got spark, gave it a squirt of carb cleaner down its' throat and it fired up on that for a moment- cranked it over and it's not spraying fuel from the injector! Took the bleed point off and bridged the fuel pump relay, get 1 BAR of fuel pressure... so either the ECU or the injector is going on the blink. Not again! I need to get one of those blinky-light things (noid light) Xbolx had for the Argenta, and see if the ECU is 'firing' the injector at all to begin with. Eventually it starts and runs sweet but it's perplexing me as to why it's not operating properly. On a nicer note I stuck the floor mats in the washing machine and they came out nice and clean and fluffy and smelling of Dreft. The inside of the car smells like fresh laundry now lol. Beats stale carpet and old chair smell. Investigation to follow! --Phil

astdfghsdf* After looking at Noid Lights on the autozone website, it was determined that the light is a 5W capless bulb of some sort hooked up in a plastic thingy with two wires sticking out the back. Rigged up an old indicator bulb into a holder and connected the 5w side of it up the injector harness and gave the key a twist. *blink* *blink* *blink* Right from the get-go Looks like the injector might have seen better days. The fuel stinks horrible old too. I'm guessing the humid winter we had has caused the fuel to absorb a lot of moisture and gotten into the inner workings of the injector. This bites. The things are $60 each! Not happy about that --Phil * You know what that means

Five minutes of pfaff today (after learning that UPS again failed to knock at the door to deliver my new computer hard drive and left with it) with the car led me to discover that when the ignition is switched off the fuel is draining back down the line and something is admitting air After the car had sat overnight it took about thirty seconds to build up 15psi of fuel pressure, during which time there's the telltale squeal of air from the regulator. Take the pump off for about ten seconds and put it back on, and it's back up to 15psi again within about a half second. Don't know where air is getting in because no fuel is leaking out... This is going to be a fun hunt for the problem. At least if it were widdling fuel everywhere I'd know where to begin :/ --Phil

Decided to investigate the fuel problems today. Got the day off work, it's sunny, quite hot. Car's returned to its' usual naughty corner: Started at the usual place, the throttle body. Lifted off the lid: Thankfully access to everything is remarkably good, being TBI: Cleared the rest of the stuff away and undid the injector girdle. The design of it is quite nice, you can't lose the screws out of it and drop them down the intake easily: After a bit of a fight the injector is liberated from its hole: The injector doesn't look to be in too good shape any more. The lower gauze is warped, the o-rings are both perished (the top one split and shot off somewhere): I think it's time to invest in a rebuilt item. The lower o-ring has totally fallen apart. The entire body of the injector is immersed in pressurised fuel, and the top ring having split is what's probably been letting air back in. Local parts place doesn't have any spares so it's ho-hum time, total mojo failure, put it back together and walk back inside to write this. --Phil

As an alternative, you can get that one rebuilt at one of the injector cleaning/rebuilding/blueprinting services online and you'll usually get new o rings too, at least I did last time I sent some on. Although that service might take too long and cost as much as a rebuilt injector.
Of course, that injector looks pretty uncommon and they service may not have the parts.

Thankfully it's a fairly common part, sharing heritage in the USA with a lot of mid 90's Jeeps.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a new-new one or getting a rebuild and sending the core back. After all, I don't have 3 more to fall back on if this one fails during service use, if it quits then that's it- walk home.

not really, in the past 3 months I've spent about $10 on the car. We're saving up for a house so right now the car has gone on fiscal hold- I'm saving up a bit from this paycheck and a bit from my next where I'll have a bit of overtime from this weekend on it. This is why I've just been doing oddjobs on it. If I had the cash I'd be driving it about by now lol --Phil

Lovely news.
You may have seen on the news reports of bad weather in Arkansas and Tennessee where places like Memphis are under water.
The Army Corps Of Engineers (the same guys responsible for the "oops we made New Orleans a bit wet" after Katrina) have decided they want to open the floodgates up north and let the water out.
Problem is, that'll put us under anywhere between 5-10 feet of water if the levee doesn't hold.
I have no way of getting the GTA out. It may end up flooded and full of water and dead. Not to mention the house and everything inside.
Meh.
Not looking forward to the next few weeks.

Best of luck Phil! Up here in Minnesota it's getting pretty nasty, but nothing like what you've had down there. Fingers crossed for you, your family, and the GTA!

Best of luck Phil! Up here in Minnesota it's getting pretty nasty, but nothing like what you've had down there. Fingers crossed for you, your family, and the GTA! Thanks. They're saying that thankfully we should be okay because we're inside a little island of levee and the worst affected area is going to be West of here. There seems to be a bit more hope. On the up-side, if all goes well SWMBO says I can order a new fuel injector (decided to bite the bullet on that one) next week. Sweeeeet. --Phil

This morning sucked. I got up, had to clear some space to get behind the TV as the cable repair guys were coming to investigate the cause of the noise on our cable TV. This made me a bit late. I walk outside, press the unlock button on the plip for the truck. Nothing. Nuts, the plip has gone flat. Unlock the door with the key, no interior light. No reply from the ignition being switched on. Meh. Pop the hood, go grab my multimeter. Battery has 5.2 Volts across its terminals. The battery has just killed itself overnight. Nothing other than the radio keepalive was on. Which is always on. Go grab the jumpleads and jump it off the mother-in-law's car and drive to work. Alternator is working and the battery took a bit of a charge, but that's it killed, for sure. Went bought a new battery. I can't afford to buy the fuel injector for the Renault now. That money was saved up for it. Sad.

Got paid yesterday so persuaded SWMBO I needed to purchase at least one headlight. Went to the store, got the wrong one (one number off, my memory isn't great- the one I picked up was physically the same but the filaments were rated 35W/35W. What the heck use is a 35W headlight?!) went back and swapped out for a replacement, H4666. 45W/65W. Pants but still better than what's on the car right now. Very shiny. Checked it was correct and went fitted it to the driver's side. Hooked the battery back up and switched on- quite an improvement. The new one has a beam pattern! Driver's side one brighter, flared in the lens of the camera. $9 well spent. Next one next payday, or thereabouts. --Phil

defo cash well spent there, wouldn't have wanted to drive about with the old glow-worms myself. Yeah. I have some fairly heavy gauge wire for the task, so I'm going to be rewiring the lights to up front and adding relays. I'm also remembering Hella do a relay with a built-in blade fuse. The front fog lights, Battery hold-on relay, fuel pump and engine fan do not have fuses. Just like that. I have enough room for them, so I think I'll try to make up a nice relay bar with proper plugins and make it look more OEM That and the proposed spotlights on the front will be consuming about 520 Watts when I'm done... --Phil

Oh my word. I've had to be paying everyone else's bills lately, grandmother fell and ended up in hospital etc etc. The car has been sat about collecting dirt, literally. Washed the daily: Note at this point in the day it is 10:45am: 101F / 38.3C. Yes. 38 degrees. AND the sun had gone behind a cloud for a while. That thermometer is in the shade of the porch... Took a look at the car. It hasn't moved, although I've been keeping the tyres topped off with air. It's just been collecting dirt, wasps nests (again) and leaves and other mank. Subtle. We've been seeing these bugs around. I have no idea what they are but they are an interesting colour. Shooed a few of them away off the car: After having a jolly good rinse: Yup, looking presentable enough to push back under the carport again. Maybe I will get the spares I need for it at some point... --Phil

Looks better for a wash. Did these come with a deeper rear valance at all to match the rest of the bodykit, or is yours as they came?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
No, the rear is as you see it with exception that mine is missing the panels that go between the bumper and the rear wheel. That part brings the line of the bodykit back in. The back is a bit high. I think someone has reset the version bars incorrectly. The stance is correct for what I want anyway. Apparently what I am doing is "grid look" ...
