I need to move a car which runs and drives OK but has no MOT no TAX and illegal rear tyres from North Notts (J27 M1) to my gaff (J24 M1).
Was hoping on A-framing it down, but the A frame is not available.
Was thinking of swapping the tyres and driving it home via the MOT station on day insurance. But I haven't a day I can do that on when the test centre is still open...
I don't fancy the simple option of the illegal drive home.
Anyone with a trailer in the area fancy helping out for a beer or two and cost of diesel?

Unfortunately, I have no tow bar on the hearse, but if you need a hand or I can do anything else for you, please let me know.
Have you tried Phil as I know that he has a trailer but no tow car...
Like I said, anything I can do, let me know...

I may be able to help. I have access to a car with a towbar, but you'd need to source an A-Frame/Trailer, unless I had some *very* kind words to my mate about his dad's trailer, but that is brand new. I'll see if I can source something. How much does the car weigh?

Yeah, have a trailer your welcome to borrow, but currently no tow bar equiped vehicle (well it's got the bar, but not yet wired up).
Only potential problem is the trailer is'nt very long - only just fits a 4050mm long Mk2 Scirocco on, although you could squeeze something 100-200mm larger on if you tie the ramps up with sturdy twine or something.
Alternatively I might know somebody that can shift the car for beer money, or thereabouts - Want me to ask him?

just quickily, as far as I'm aware if it has not mot/tax or insurance it has to be lifted (on flat bed) so is illegal to tow.
ive done it before and only found out this week that i shouldnt have done.

lowslowandold - yes, I know this but if you get stopped by a cpper you can usually talk yourself out of "well intentioned errors" LOL. Certainly a better chance than if you were just driving the thing home... oldbus - such is life. filmidget, either the trailer or the mate who can haul it would be interesting. Can you get me a quote? Also if Dontellhimpoke can measure the wheelbase next time you're on your neighbour's drive we can see if it will go on filmidget's trailer that way. Cheers guys. I have a record breaking busy week this week and the next 2 or 3 could be about the same (major project nearing deadlines) and I just want the car back here so I can get the pre-MOT work done so I can drive the thing and get the Toyota on eBay its all in the timing...

filmidget, either the trailer or the mate who can haul it would be interesting. Can you get me a quote? Well my trailer would be free obviously (though need a day or several notice to move a mates Mk1 Rocco currently nesting on it), and I'll ask the other chap soon as I find my phone charger... Note that on my trailer the wheelbase isn't so critical as overall length ie bed is fair length but not much room for overhangs. Isn't it always?

Hmm, I was thinking the of the car could overhang the trailer fairly freely? Thats how my Cadillac was taken away...

Trailer with my 4050mm long Mk2 Rocco on it: The hinged rear ramps limit overhang, although they can be tied to the support rods to gain a couple of hundred millimetres...
