I would be very interested, but if I did sell the Rocco (which I would have to), whatever I bought would have to be road legal.....

there must be something in the air at the moment! lol ive got this desire to build a square drag car. Tubbed rear end, full CIRC tube chassis, and a V8 upfront with a blower poking giving it large out the bonnet! a square pickup would work so well!!

And everything is there, it just needs putting back together. I'm know she needs to sell it - i think a bargain could be had there with a 'sensible' offer

I'm tempted when the Datsun is done to build the Square pickup,.. I really fancy angle grinding the curse word out of something .... How much do squares go for now days? (problem with VW scene = cost!)

hotwire, what datun did u get? got any pics? i know nothing of this car you bought! - it must have happened while i was sorting out jobs and things. Prices for squares vary, its a case of looking in the right places i guess. Qwans old one is looking a bargain on ebay. I want one with a knackered chassis and solid body which makes things a bit harder. I'm waiting till i can grab one for £500 or less.
irocco - i thought thats what u meant.

My pride and joy (although it is now minus the side trim) : It is nice to have a vehicle I can afford the spares for,..

Externally,.. lots lower with nicely polished and powered coated Lotus wheels. Some street racer styling Engine : Megasquirt through the motorcycle throttle bodies sat in my loft. + Turbo ,... + supercharger The original plan was to go hillclimbing in it,.. which I might do, but I don't really want to rip out the lovely interior,.. so I may end up just going to track days.

wow - at the start of this thread i said i was glad to see that photo cos it meant my mate had made it. It sounds he only just made it - this was his story he just posted on VZi. He certainly doesnt 'do' being defeated!
Here's his breakdown catalogue... bear in mind, there was no working engine in the car the day before I was due to leave!
Thursday Couldn't get out of my driveway to leave to meet a couple of other RestowagenUK.com guys - the weight of all the stuff in the car was giving me a bad case of fender brakes. Had to to raise the front suspension.
1 hr into the drive to Ashford - started to smell ammonia and sulphuric acid smells. Lights started getting dimmer. Got to Ashford Travelodge and fan belt was hanging off - stretched by over an inch and the battery had boiled. Battery terminals had started melting into the battery. Discovered Genny strap had gone AWOL causing genny to flap around. Called one of the Resto guys to ask him to bring another one the next morning. Regulator also burnt out.
Friday Fitted 12v genny strap as my friend couldn't get to a 6v one. Strapped it round a socket to take up slack. Fitted spare fan belt and regulator. Engine wouldn't start so had to be push started.
Got to Eurotunnel. Got pulled by Customs - "Your car is too dirty to travel, You need to wash it, Sir" Me: "Get Lost, and give me a push start" (cue 6 Customs officers push starting the Zwitter)
Get to loading queue. Engine cuts out. Needs another push start.
Prepare to push start inside the train, but engine surprisingly starts first time.
Pulled into services in France - fan belt stretched again. Replaced with a mate's spare. Discovered oil leak from cooler - topped up the oil and continued. Car started first time.
Red light on..pulled into second services - fanbelt stretched again - removed all shims and retightened. Car starts first time.
We run into torrential rain. Lack of block off caps on ends of heater channels means channels and inside of car becomes a swimming pool from rear wheel spray. Wipers pack up.
Got to campsite.. Fan belt overstretched and chewed up. Fitted new one. Dissy cap burnt out on no. 3 and 4 terminals. Replaced with spare. Fixed wipers.
Saturday Car needs push start to leave for Spa circuit. Luckily our chalet is on a hill to make life easier.
Car conks out at junction. Passers by get out of cars to help push start.
Get to Spa, fan belt stretched. Go off in search of genny strap. Find a few 6v 30hp genny straps, but they're connected to a whole fan and dynamo assembly. Traders all refuse to sell just the strap..A mate phones to say he's found a trader with two genny/fan assemblies complete with straps, but not bolted together. Wait for trader to get distracted by punter so I can take the strap off try and buy it separately. Loads of head shaking, gesturing and 'No Engleesh"..finally get the strap for 2 Euros.
Return to car to fix in time for the circuit parade. Fit genny strap, fanbelt stretched and chewed again..fit another of a mate's spare fanbelts and try and push start - no luck. Rotor arm burnt out. Replace with spare, and push start again. Battery earth cable frayed. Strap glowing red hot on start up.
Handbrake cable snapped on way to chalet. Wipers packed up.
Fix wipers, Fanbelt chewed up - replace with Yachtybugger's spare, sod the handbrake cable.
Oil leak getting worse. Topped up oil.
Sunday
Needed push start to get to Spa circuit.
Oil leak really bad - oil gushing out from cooler. Fan belt stretched and chewed up again. Find genny is 4mm too far back from aligning with bottom pulley. Unexpectedly win Top 5 'Coup du Coeur' trophy. Engine starts first time to get to show and shine winners line up for trophy collection. Get to line up, 1.2 metre pool of oil starts forming under car. Get directed out to the track and park on very steep hill with no handbrake, oil curse word out of engine.. car inches forward with foot firmly on brake, heading for Anders MIB's best of show Split bug. Start to get worried. I'm blocked in by other cars with nowhere to go. Get called to collect my trophy in the nick of time.
Get back to Restowagen line up, and in search of oil cooler seals. Can't find seals. Find a 1.2 gasket set but can's see the seals. Get advice from Paul Knight and Ben Pascoe. Find one seal in the gasket set. Find more seals - thanks Steve W and Adele A!
Start stripping engine to remove fan housing. Remove decklid to find hinge brackets welded to car body. Start 4 hour task of fitting oil cooler seals with fan housing in situ and 3 inch gap to work in.
Oil leak fixed, New fanbelt fitted - A genuine VW one..! Engine won't start to return to chalet. Need push start.
Need push start to get to town for one of the Resto guys' birthday meal. Engine starts first time to get back to chalet.
Monday
Adjusted brakes, fitted new battery earth strap, shimmed loose fanbelt. Needed push start to leave for journey home.
Stopped to get petrol. Fanbelt ok. Needed push start.
Stopped at services. Needed push start.
Get to shopping centre in Calais. Fan belt loose, engine running rough. Reset points gap and tighten fan belt. All Ok.
Get to Eurotunnel boarding queue. Need push start to leave.
Need push start to get off train.
15 miles from Folkestone.. lose all power. Coast to stop off motorway junction. Replace points. Need push start. I had my head under the bonnet in the curse word rain fixing it, and was later told that Matt Keene had stopped to offer help - Thanks dude, it was much appreciated! The points had burnt out!
Wipers pack up again.
5 miles on, lose all power again. Engine cuts out. Diagnose a terminally dead battery and dying generator. Replace with backup battery.
Get to Maidstone services. Need push start.
Get 35 miles from home.. Engine loses all power. Backup battery dead. Generator packed up completely. Totally knackered and can't be arsed to fix any more so call breakdown and finish the journey on low loader.
The 30hp engine which I'm running in the Zwitter was out of a '60 beetle and was only started for the first time in about 20 years on Wednesday morning, so was an untried and tested engine hence its unreliability. The car itself was recently discovered in a barn in Sweden and the trip to Spa is its first proper journey in over 30 years.
Was it worth it?? Hell yeah! - Spa turned out to be the best show I've ever been to and to win a top 5 trophy made it all worthwhile!
