It's rare to find a good one and very good ones have been known to fetch upwards of 8k! GT'S are the rarer and more expensice ones,ST's are cheaper.....beware the ST being passed for a GT. A GT will have the 1600 twin cam engine (2tg) an lsd, honeycomb grill and silver trim on the dash
You'd be lucky to find a reasonable one for peanuts,so start saving if you really want one.

just seems to hit the spot to me, a nice pillarless coupe. do they fetch a lot of money? are they rare? do you think I would find one which wouldnt be a million dollars? thanksy Yes they fetch good money, yes they're rare, I have the import figues somewhere, but IIRC its about 1000- 1500 TA23ST, 500 RA23ST and less than 100 TA23GT. You may well find one for less than a million, but you may have to pay that much for body repairs. The youngest ones you'll find will be over 30 years old so sills, arches and body panels on a well used car will need careful attention and are not easy to find. Everything else is almost bulletproof. The original engines - 2T-B, 2T-G and 18R go on forever but virtually any inline four or even a small six will fit including Toyota 4A-G(Z)E, Honda S2000, Nissan turbo etc. One word of warning - you can't park anywhere without attracting a crowd ;D This was my restored RA23ST back in the day...

Didn't realise they only imported 100 TA23GT's. That means my dad has removed 5% of the population of them from the road :-(

Panels are getting harder to find. Most are the same as the earlier coupe (TA22) from the windscreen/A pillar backwards, including the glass, but some interior bits are slighty different. Front wings, bonnet, bumper are same as RA28 liftback (as in my avatar). Doors are same as RA28 but not the door glass. Windscreen is interchangable in all cars, coupe or liftback. They are nice cars and in my opinion rarer, better looking and far better value than a Mk 2 Escort and they have a fair bit of rally/race heritage too. The only not-so-good-things were the recirculating ball steering and the rust.

Didn't realise they only imported 100 TA23GT's. That means my dad has removed 5% of the population of them from the road :-( Matt I reckon there were easily more than a 100 imported The total GT import figure between 1974 and 1978 was 943. We know that includes 337 22GTs which leaves 606. The problem is that the 76-78 figures don't specify which GT they refer to. That figure includes 23, 28 and 40 GTs. An educated guess would leave around 500 23/28. Ten years ago the TCEC did a survey - it didn't catch every car of course, but only 1 in 10 23/28 cars where 23s, which in fact leaves a figure closer to 50-60 imports. I've always wanted more accurate figures but Toyota GB never did come up with a better breakdown - if you've got something more precise I'd be very interested.
