Show me threads -- Spleen vented.

I think it's a way of starting a thread for a lot of folk. Like a dare.

Dave and the Mods have so much going on, but I was thinking of submitting a couple of ideas about a couple new sub-boards for R-R. (Not new ones or anything Dave hasn't already thought of, surely, but just to add my .02 cents). The idea being to keep more globally interesting AUTOMOTIVE threads on Page 1 a bit longer. I'm NOT saying the following are less worthy, just that they are specialized posts of limited interest to the larger global audience at R-R (IMO).

1. Like maybe "Mechanical Maladies" or summat for all the threads where someone wants to know what Castrol grade of EP grease to use on their muffler bearings. Or need help with my MOT.

2. Another, maybe "Parts Help" or summat for all the threads about can you ID this? or anybody know if a thermostat for a Yugo interchanges with a Bentley? Or where can I buy a tail lamp for my Gogomobbil?

3. And, a "Personal Greetings" or summat for Happy Birthdays, or wow it's my 1000th post, or I have a load of free 40,000mi tires to offload, or look at my new modern non-retro...

Please no one take this as criticism of anyone or of our present format. Love to R-R and to all here, even those who intensely dislike me. ;D These musings about a couple more sub-boards are meant as a small bit of toss which might be useful to mull over now and then if it suits the management. And if it's not useful, please disregard.

Most of the questions asked on here could be solved with a bit of searching on the internet.
But that wouldn't make for much of a community.

Yeah what nightmares says..

One thing I hate is that they start with the phrase "show me"... Why not just say : "Low Mk1 Golfs" or something like that rather than "Show me Golfs" ...

Just a little thing but it would make for a better attitude to these threads.

4 pages of folk describing whats in their boot is a good example.

True true,... so thats one... and the Fiagro thread is probably guilty... so thats 2 out of 50 so far... what else we got?

So you had to "wade" through 2 threads of dross... one of which is clearly not going to be of interest to you from the title?

Whilst I'd rather people stopped and thought through their posts before starting threads, it is just plain wrong to imply that the general forum is full of "dross".

This forum is excellent, youre bound to get a bit of "dross" but in my ever-so humble opinion thats to be expected. You have to take the rough with the smooth. A bit like sex, if it was perfect everytime wed all be pornstars... ;D I love some of the show me threads and the ooof ones are brilliant. I didnt think anybody would be interested in my drawings or my models when I posted them in thier respective threads, but I recieved nice positive comments. Ive spent some time looking through alot of the threads on here, and I think there is just the right mixture of helpful advice and banter. And some of the projects and the variety of cars and stuff is brilliant. I thought the "whats in your boot" thread was quite amusing. You cant please all the people all the time.
