Well the Porsche 924 went in for the mot today, and it FAILED . Thankfully it was nothing major , just things like - seatbelt frayed, rear tyres different sizes, side repeater not working, fuel cap loose, fuel pipe leaking, battery not clamped, windscreen washers not working (the tester wasnt using correct switch), headlight aim on both lights, suspension bolt needs tightening, front brakes braking unevenly, and the CO level is slightly high (5.1%). Hoping to get all this fixed by next week, so I don't have to pay for another mot

Nothing major then... lol. CO is more than slightly high at 5.1%, should be more like 1.5% +/- 0.25, pass limit is 3.5% (which is still faulty..) And there is nothing like leaking fuel and having a nice sparky loose battery in a car with poor brakes and faulty seatbelts to really make you feel glad you are still alive

Gave the car a good check over, but the things it failed on are not that bad, like the tyres are a 165/65R14 and a 165/70R14 (obviously illegal, but not quite as bad as xbo11ox suggests ). Also the battery is clamped in, but the clamp hasnt been fully tightened. The petrol cap tightens on, but doesnt lock, and the fuel leak is minimal (wasnt there prior to the test). Little update - got a pair of seatbelts off a 16000 miler 924S in a local scrapyard today,

the emissions arent too bad considering the car hadnt run on the road for 9 months,,,,swop the spare wheel on,(it must be similar to at least one of the rear wheels)
ohh and the advisories,,,were there many

the emissions arent too bad considering the car hadnt run on the road for 9 months yes they are.. over 5% CO on a K jet car means its faulty no way should it be that high regardless of how long it has stood. On the plus side tho, its normally only the warmup regulator. Don't play with the metering head or the volume screw until you have eliminated it as cause.

Ron, i think those are the only things wrong, as he didnt say anything about advisories : :. The side repeater is fixed (loose connection), the seatbelts and petrol cap are bought and ready to put in, the spare wheel has been put on so the rear tyres are now the same size, the battery will be clamped up properly, and the bolt will be tightened. So that just leaves - the CO level, the headlight aim, the front brakes, and the petrol leak

as a rough guide for checking headlamp aim - park 10 meters away from a wall, on flat ground. Measure the height from the road to the centre of the headlight and subtract 10cm. Mark this new height on the wall. The horizontal section of the beam should be set to this height. The beam should also kick up 30degrees or so to the side. The point where this kicks up should be directly infront of each light - measure between centres of your headlights, then measure between the two kick-up points on the wall and check they are the same distance.

If its dangling by its straps 3" off the road it might come under "general vehicle condition" oh yeah, and another handy hint... make sure the lights pop up to the same point each time you use them before doing the aim as per above..
