right good folks of RR, anyone know anything about pickup conversions, and stuff.
i'll be more specific, i am going to try buy a really cool pickup conversion. its unfinished, but at a bargain price i think. now where will i stand on regards to insurance. i mean will i need to get the registraition form/documents changed from 4door to 2door pickup? or is it just a case of only having to tell the insurance companies of its new found pickup status?
also any idea's where i can go get limited mileage insurance from a place that wont rape me, because the car is radically different?
any help appreciated

I imagine the log book would say '2-axle rigid-body' whatnot, in which case it will still be correct even post-conversion? If so keep the DVLA out of it I say.

Mr_Bo11ox is absolutely right with regards to DVLA, the problem though may be with your insurrance company...
...some (emphasize 'some') require an engineers report if the vehicle has been altered this way.

Is it that orange Scimitar dans la bay? *n i havent seen that, and no its not. its an e30 pickup conversion. no pictures of it to share around unfortunately, it looks really good at the moment though. black. roll cage. barely any ground clearance. 15"bbs cross spokes. plain simple cool.

it is I with the welded diff, and if i can bag it, i am going to have to do some finishing off work on it, but it'll be road car aswell as drift car, i like welded diff for all round use, only thing that could be a pain in the ass is the amount of cabin space. wont bother me..probably would for tall people.

don't bother with dvla, only tell the insurance fo legal reasons......depends on insurer, they may want to sting you because of the price to replicate such a conversion in the event of a crash.

Be aware that if it's a "commercial vehicle", the insurance may see fit to bosh up your premium. Many insurers won't insure vans & trucks at all.
I've seen a few e30 pick-up conversions. On the whole thy've been bobbins. Be interesting to see this one though.

If it's done well then it sounds interesting! As NickB says it's a commercial though, so if no car insurance companies are listening see if any who deal in vans and lorries will listen.

yeh normally ive thought E30 conversions look pretty wanky, but maybe cos this one was made from a touring and has shorter front doors than ones made from 2 doors it makes a difference? who knows... but i think you guys would like it.. it really is stupidly slammed..

All pickups should be made from the Estate versions of cars, the dimension fit better.

...plus the tailgate can be used as the cab back and drop down if you're relly good with the welder.

Trying to insure this Vauxhall Viva estate pickup conversion was impossible for me at 17 years old (I was a bit naive thinking I could afford to insure it as a first car). None of the companies I rang wanted anything to do with it because, as far as they were concerned, it was: (a) A modified car; (b) A commercial vehicle (c) I was only 17 with no driving experience I just wish Id found this out before I prepared it for its MOT and wasted more money on it! You live and learn.

i've got a feeling insuring it wont be very fun...but where theres a will theres a way. just got to see if i end up with it or not, think a siedl front bumper and sideskirts might come with it as part of the deal.. not overly keen on them though... hopefully i'll know more tonight or tomorow

looks like its a no go. someone else offered more and are building it as a lowrider thing with hydraulics.....fair enough i guess:( gutted though

That's a shame, it could have been a nice practical motor for someone, once you stuff the bed full of hydraulics you sort of abolish the point of a pickup I reckon.
