Hoya, my lad wants a bmx for his birthday so I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a cheapee knocking about. He is 9 this year but can ride an 'adult' bmx. Doesn't require anything fancy and a dooer upper is absolutly fine.
Can anyone help?

if you do ned up buying a new bike, don't go to halfords, or argos, go to an indipendant bike shop
i work part time in one and trying to get trade through the door is tough next to the big boys who's cheep prices are enough to make people spend, there is no after sales tho, no freebe service when the cables streach, and the bikes are not al that great ither for the money
go to a cycle shop, you will be surprised at whats on offer! poundland does sell tools, socketsets etc, so why don't you buy and use them on your car? same reason you shouldnt go to halfords, etc for a bike!
rant over!

here you go trunkmonkey apart from what i said, the brakes might need adjusting as i aint used it for a while. i could probably get it up to lancashire at some point before then aswell, so a bit closer to you. i got this from an independant bike shop which is no longer with us, all the joints are tig welded very neatly, which leads me to believe that it is good quality, cost well over £300 new

i dug the old kalkhoff out but not sure you would want it. its a bit oldskool (early 80's) and would idealy need new wheels and brakes and idealy looking for 30 quid as is (riding bike without brakes) or 40quid with the aeroyal seat thats shown and at least a caliper bolted on so it would need a cable and lever.......

sorry retrowagen, didn't respond to your post. Thanks for the pics but yeah, nice bike but too old school for my lad if you know what I mean. He doesn't fully appreciate some of the finer things in life yet

trunkmonkey and joda...
the lovely twist is that my bike was built up almost entirely IN a halfords bike deptartment, by the then bikehut specialist and the part timer street rider... Namely me and my now best friend!!
Please, Joda, don't do the whole tarring thing. I could name plenty of IBDs local to us that I've been shocked at the quality and prices of, and I'm more than glad to take the business off them as they are rubbarsh! When i ran the Bike dept it was one of the strongest in the country, and featured me and my technical excellence, an ex- irish junior champion road racer, a well-regarded irish DH senior competitor, a well experienced street and trials rider and a cycle mechanic who had 40 years of building a large percentage of the bikes used in Irish and national raod racing championships. But sure, we eorked in halfords, what did we know
