Anyone have any experience? Ive heard a few horror stories about heat spots and fires caused by gaps that start to appear? under the bonnet on my Capri now looks great apart from the manifold which looks a bit cack. Ive painted it before but the paint flakes off so mainly for aesthetic purposes Id like to wrap it in insulation. Ive also heard that it speeds up the rotting process trapping condensation inside? Are there actually any benefits? keeping the under bonnet temperature lower sounds like a goo thing to me for power and economy? Anyone done it? Like to see some pics and hear some opinions! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I've used it on several manifold now with no problems. Have heard the horror stories - fires from oil leaking onto it and increased rot/cracking but not suffered from either, yet....... Certainly keeps under bonnet temps down, and makes working on a hot engine slightly easier. Just make sure you wet it well when applying it - it keeps the fibres down and shrinks to a tight fit when it dries out. My SX manifold and elbow.... ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/mantachris/manifoldwrap.jpg) Bought dark wrap for that one as the white always gets dirty but the colouring doesn't last that long - it's now the same as it would be if I'd used white. Manta 16V manifold.... ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/mantachris/exhaustwrap.jpg) Cheaper ebay wrap - not as thick as the more expensive stuff and doesn't retain the heat quite as well but a lot eaier to work with being thinner.

I've got it on the manifold on my Anglia. It keeps the heat down so well I don't care if the manifold lasts a few years less. It makes working on the engine easier and the passenger footwell isn't hot enough to cook an egg on any more.
Get a dark colour though!
Mine is cheap white eBay stuff which appears to be thick glassfibre tape and I've sprayed it with VHT black paint.

Mine steamed every morning, so took it off - custom headers, didn't fancy them rotting. Car lived outdoors so that may be a factor. Used POR20 paint instead, lasts for ages, does need occasional touch-up in small spots, but good enough. Didn't notice much in the way of bay temp drops (venting the bonnet made a hell of a diff though)

I fitted the cheap ebay stuff to my stainless 4 branch on an RS1600i. Wish I'd known you could wet it back then coz I itched for 2 weeks after, no word of a lie. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) I've heard you shouldn't wrap cast manifolds as they are prone to cracking but stainless or mild steel is ok ? Never realised how well it worked until I was on my way to the Nurburgring in a group & broke down at night. Popped my bonnet to find the 4 into 1 bit glowing through the wrap like a very hot thing that had got so hot it had started to glow like a hot thing... . . that was red hot... . . & glowing !

I just had to replace the cherrybomb on the sled, so it's BRIGHT red, i was thinkin about wrappin it in exhaust rap to make it look better and fit in with the car more, but eveyones only put it on their manifolds, i take you can put it on the cherrybomb/back box.

Erm, when i put an Ashley system on my XR2 I wrapped the headers and ended up with this...
<a href="http://s266.photobucket.com/albums/ii259/k0laj/?action=view¤t=DSC00016.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii259/k0laj/DSC00016.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
All I could work out was that the Fiesta only has a rubber mount out the back by the fuel tank. The wrap must of localized the heat, and with the vibration from the rest of the system I caused this crack. When went to Ashley direct and put my car on there ramp dude tells me that Ashley DON'T! recommend wrapping there exhausts manifolds. They did replace it for me, I welded a couple of gussets in and a bracket nearer the front of the car. So far so good

I used wrap on my Minor. I did the whole lot from head to tail pipe. The stuff on the manifold would last about 2000 miles then start to burn off. There would be dust everywhere. I got fed up of rewrapping the manifold so had it ceramic coated by Zircotec. Beautiful job but it caused my manifold to crack (it was fine for 5000 mies with the wrap). Zircotec say they have never heard of any other manifolds cracking with Zircotec.
The wrap on the rest of the system is fine.
I bought my wrap from an industrial supplier ........... much cheaper.
I have no experience of the Camcoat but do wonder how well it works for insulation. What makes me wonder is why you don't see it on racing cars..................

you do see it on race cars, thats mostly what they do, they don't look coated is the thing, a black manifold may not be a brand new unrusty one, it may have been coated, the ehat proofing is pretty good, especially if you pay the extra to have the inside done as well.
