I love trunks too, got a Jetta myself you know. ;D And indeed, the reason behind a 2-door trunker isn't all that clear too me. It doesn't make them more sporty. err, pretty much all sports cars are two door with a proper boot, hatchbacks and estate cars are the shopping cars and workhorses of the world, the reason that the term "Hot hatch" was coined was because it was unusual for a hatchback to be at all sporty so it needed to be pointed out. No offence but I think some of the young VW fans get a bit blinkered about the rest of the world. I see your point. But I mean a car as large as a Jetta or Santana, with a proper rearseat, I don't see the point why not to put rear doors in. If they were to make a real sporty version with a different engine a 2-door would have a meaning. But I just don't see the point in making a 1.3 litre basic car with a basic interiour with just 2-doors if the rearseat is so usefull. And although I'm young and only driving VW's for 8 years, I don't consider myself blinkered mate. Actually I'm very open minded.

2 doors are normally cheaper and lighter, basic povo spec entry level car, also 2 doors generally have longer doors, so easier to get in and out if you have restricted mobility.
Hey it wasn't an insult, we all get involved in our own favourites, just VW fans seem to be some of the worst ofenders (i think more because of the high proportion of younger guys) along with triumph, old "skool" ford and MG fans.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Alright, you might have apoint there. Cheaper is a valid point indeed. I didn't take it as an insult, more as a generalisation. There are a lot of young VW 'boyracer-types' which indeed are a bit blinkered. "We hate Opel because we love VW." and that sort of curse word, that's true. But don't see all young VW owners like that. There are some 18 year olds who restore/maintain a car in a better/more original/more inventive way than some older lads.

We just stopped updating the trunksociety site, and after a year we also stopped paying for the domain so it disappeared.. I had no inspiration for it any longer... and started www.sportklassiek.nl instead.. for passat and santana you could check www.passat-kartei.defor jetta etc there is enough out there.. trunksociety was once started because of the domination of the Golf on all VW forums, in a couple of years this changed and other models became more respected and gained interest. The goal was reached so the site could be stopped..

The goal was reached so the site could be stopped.. surely that means its entire reason was to outdo the golf guys..... i liked the idea of it for what it was. or could be re-created as? a site for any trunked car (pref retro obviously ) not just vw's so it would (this may sound naff) but bring the comunity together a bit.... , if i could id probably build a site but I'm not sure how. and if it would be worth it??? may have to get some polls going on a few sites and see if there is any interest

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
