Firstly - hello to you all (including all those new members that I haven't said "hi" to.....), I know I've been away for a long time, but I am still alive!
So then, after driving the 75 miles round trip from Thatcham to Windsor for the last 8 months, certain motorway behaviour really is 'beyond-the-joke'
So here's your chance to vent some of your frustrations, and maybe make people who do any of the above (or all) realise that they're 'numpties'......

Gotta be middle lane twunts.
Last week, early afternoon and I'm giving the beemer fecking good thrashing back from NW London.... down the slip-road onto the A1 just before the Hatfield Tunnel in hot persuit of an S14 Nissan, and what appears in front of me... a silly little girl in a daddy bought 106 doing 46mph. No probs, I think as the slip-road actually becomes the left hand lane. It's quite clearly signposted that this is the case. It's written on the 5m high blue signs.... So, still giving it some welly, imagine my surprise when the daft bint suddenly moves off the slip-road, straight into the centre lane without checking her mirrors. Missed her by millimetres. F*cktard.

yep - gotta be middle lane hoggers
on my route to work where i join the motorway at chester-le-street, the slip road turns into the left hand lane and the amount of people that pull over to the middle lane is UNREAL
I can feel myself getting annoyed about it just sitting here
But you always find the ones that pull over to the middle, do it at about 45-50MPH!!! i am only on the motorway for one junction, so it is awkward for me to get round and back off on my slip road and it would be really naughty of me to undertake them ;D ;D

I think nowadays, driving in the UK, undertaking is OK and in fact is pretty normal practice. I mainly only do it on 3-lane motorways when the overtaking lane is full and the other lanes are relatively empty (which effectively means all motorways, except those which are completely blocked solid and at a standstill). But I think if you are careful and aware of what you are doing its safe enough, and even sensible to make progress by doing this.

Something else that really boils my pisÂs is the nuggets who won't move over a bit to let motorbikes through, particularly in slow moving traffic. They should have hot pokers inserted in their eyes.

I'll happily undertake a middle-lane hogger if they've been there so long that they're obviously not going to move back over.... either that or go from lane 1 to lane 3 right behind them with full-beam on, past them on the correct side, then straight back to lane 1 again. that normally shifts 'em.
so i nominate people on mobile phones. there's nothing more bum-clenching than overtaking a bottom-of-the-range german saloon with the badges removed, and it wandering across the lane markings cos dicksplat in the drivers seat has a mobile clamped to his ear and is trying to reschedule his 2pm. GET A CLUE. If you enter my lane i will send you spinning into the armco - i've watched enough Police! Camera! Action! USA to know where to hit you.

I can't drive, but we do a lot of motorway miles, and it has to be middle-laners. There is simply no need! I remember once, driving down a motorway quite late at night, and there was a little 106 or something, sad in the middle lane, with NOTHING around it! Like Pillock, my dad's favorite game, is to go into the first lane, drive paralle to them for a while, then fly out to the 3rd, over take the car, then back into the 1st lane. Highly dangerous, but quite fun...

Good point well made Nick - my brother just passed his advance CBT (??), and he's said that the number of people who don't pull over a little to let him through is unbelieveable. (he either knocks their wing mirror, or pulls alongside and taps on the window........) Talking about doing things you shouldn't on the motorway - I undertook a Merc the other week who was sat in the middle lane doing about 50 whilst typing on his laptop The best thing to do when undertaking middle lane tw*ts, is to approach them at speed sounding your horn, slow down next to them and wave, then speed off again.....it's amazing the number of people I've done that to, and they've instantly dropped the mobile from their ear in to their lap.... Oh there's so many things I hate about motorway driving - don't even get me started on lorries overtaking other lorries, one doing 55 and the other doing 56, tying up the whole motorway for miles - THEY NEED TO STAY IN LANE ONE AT ALL TIMES (every motorway needs a crawler lane like on the M25 between Jcts 22 and 23 (?)) and.......relax.....!

I don't understand the problem people have driving whilst using mobile phones i have seen them all over the road...but i don't understand why by raising ones hand to the side of ones head it causes you to drive all over the road i must admit to driving sometimes whilst using my phone... i know bad lad...but i can do it and still keep between the white lines i actually concentrate more if i am on the phone i stop looking up every side street for theose hidden away classics i stop ogling every short skirt and use my mirrors ten times more than i normally would Being on the phone probably improves my driving!!!

Not a big fan of mobiles being used in car,.. paricularly when you can use hands free kits.
What really annoys me though is Lorries,.. I KNOW they have to overtake each other,... but surely not up hill when the difference in speed is 1mph, so we end up with 1 lane of usable motorway,... or if your on the M4 going past Cardiff 0 lanes of usable motorway....

i think even hands free kits are dangerous.... like Jarvis says there's no reason holding one hand to your ear makes you drive worse, so it's probably more the fact you have to concentrate on what your missus wants you to pick up from Tesco on the way home and guess what little Johnny did with the crayons and oooh those people three doors down have had a new sofa and.......

It's no different to talking to your passenger??!??! What is different with a hands free kit is that you don't need to look at the phone to answer it or dial a number.

Arg, so many to choose from! People doing 55 in the middle lane pisses me off, but then some tw*t carving in and out of the lanes boils my p1ss too - I think undertaking's fine if you're getting in front of some d1ck hogging the middle lane, but I see people just treating other cars like rolling chicanes and weaving through them all. If they try that I normally speed up, boxing them in behind the lorry I was in the middle of overtaking ;D Lorries overtaking each other - that's a fuggin' p1sstake is that. They tried making trucks stay in lane 1 on the M1 but they didn't take any notice - slows everyone right up! Oh f*ck it I'm going to another thread before I start getting all hacked off ;D

HoTWire - so how do you explain some people's inability to drive whilst talking on the phone then? it's not the one-handed thing, as a lot of repmobiles are automatics, plus i know very few people who put both hands on the wheel whilst driving.
Maybe it's the nature of the phone call..... if i'm talking to my passenger then it's usually just chatting. if i was working on the road then i'm having to think a lot more about what i'm saying, remembering things from one call to tell people when i call them next. it can be stressful and you will concentrate less on driving.
i'm not saying ban hands-free kits as 95% of users drive well with them - it's just the twits who see an hour on the M1 as an hour they can be doing lots of work in and fail to concentrate on driving. Hence they are more dangerous than just driving.

I don't normally have a problem eating a kabab, smoking, talking on the phone and playing with the Radio after 10 pints of wife-beater.... (not me actually, but a mate of mine from work got caught doing all this at 3am on the M25 back from Putney, whilst doing 90 through the roadworks speed limit of 40 - let's just say, he hasn't got a lisence anymore........ ) On the subject of not concentratin whilst driving - I think smoking and driving should be banned. You must take your eyes off the road / one or more hands off the wheel to light a fag (I know, I used to smoke).....isn't drinking from a can illegal, because you can't drink from one and keep both eyes on the road....? The mobile phone issue I think is a combination of everything from above - one hand off the wheel, not concentrating on the road (I've used the phone whilst driving (before the ban may I add), and I can remember being on the phone for 20 minutes, and not being able to remember anything about the journey), having to take the other hand off the wheel the change gear / indicate / use the wipers etc....
